Job summary

Trex Company is seeking a hands-on supervisor to lead hourly production staff in a fast-paced setting. You will guide team members, ensure adherence to safety and quality standards, and coordinate with salaried supervisors to maintain smooth operations and accurate documentation.

The role requires forklift certification, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and strong communication skills. You will train staff, manage shift handoffs, and support continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating and guiding hourly team members; act as point of contact and conduct tier meetings/huddles.
• Ensuring safety compliance: reinforce safety rules, PPE adherence and procedures.
• Facilitating workflow: monitor production flow, address issues, ensure materials/resources are available.
• Maintaining quality standards and accurate data/documentation.
• Communication and escalation: relay production status and raise concerns to supervisors.
• Training and support: deliver training to new and existing employees.
• Acting as a backup in absence of salaried supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Coordinating and guiding hourly team members: act as a point of contact and provide guidance to the raw material employees on their assigned tasks, ensuring they understand instructions and follow standard operating procedures including 6S compliance. Deliver tier meetings/huddles on a regular basis.
• Ensuring safety compliance: responsible for reinforcing safety rules, PPE adherence, and procedures within their assigned area to maintain a safe working environment.
• Facilitating workflow: keep the production flow moving smoothly by monitoring progress, addressing minor issues as they arise, and ensuring materials and resources are available (including wood and poly trailers). This includes ensuring an effective shift handoff and staffing coordination as well as collaborating with other functional areas to ensure raw material needs are being met.
• Maintaining quality standards: monitor product quality and ensure that team members are adhering to quality control procedures. Ensure all data entry and documentation is accurate.
• Communication and escalation: serve as a communication link between the hourly team and the salaried supervisors, relaying information, providing updates on production status, and escalating any significant problems or concerns. Upward and downward communication is required.
• Training and support: work with the training team to deliver training to both new and existing employees. Ensure effective skill enhancement of the area employees.
• Acting as a backup: in the absence of a salaried supervisor or other employees (e.g., during breaks, meetings, or short absences), the hourly lead often steps in to provide immediate oversight or to complete the necessary tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be Material Handler or above

Essential Functions

• Regular and predictable attendance

• Must be able to operate plant machinery (forklifts) and online systems (RFS, JDE, etc.)
• Must be able to stand and/or walk for a prolonged period

• Perform repetitive tasks

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to be forklift certified, requiring proper vision, hearing, and motor skills
• Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment
• Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 50 pounds regularly
• Must be able and willing to comply with PPE requirements at all times
• Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces
• Must be able to move safely while walking over uneven terrain
• Must be able to work in hot environments and on concrete floors
