Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Machine Operator to safely set up, inspect, and run meat processing equipment. You will follow SOPs, document production activities, and work with the team to keep a safe, efficient operation.

Responsibilities include operating cutting/packaging machinery, monitoring equipment with attention to detail, and meeting shift requirements with possible overtime. Training may include certification for equipment operation.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform tasks with repetitive movement (grasping, pinching, arm movements).
  • Stand for up to a 12-hour shift on concrete or platforms.
  • Work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
  • Operate equipment and knives when trained.
  • Work in cold environments (20–40°F) and/or hot environments (>100°F); wet and humid conditions.
  • Wear PPE including hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
  • Possess potential certification for equipment operation.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs with or without assistance.
  • May be assigned additional duties.

Overview

Smithfield Foods is hiring for a Machine Operator. This role focuses on the safe and efficient setup, inspection, and operation of equipment and machinery used in the processing of meat products. The position follows standard operating procedures (SOPs), completes production-related paperwork, and meets product specifications.

What You’ll Do
  • Work with meat cutting/packaging machinery and related equipment to process products for consumers
  • Utilize technical knowledge of computerized equipment; perform tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Meet shift requirements and may work overtime based on production needs
Qualifications & Requirements

  • Perform tasks requiring continuous/repetitive movement (grasping, pinching, arm movements)
  • Stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift
  • Work around animal blood and/or carcass parts
  • Work with a knife (if trained) and operate various equipment
  • Work in cold environments (approximately 20–40°F) and/or hot environments (over 100°F); wet and humid conditions
  • Wear PPE including hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes; work in a noisy environment
  • Possess the ability to perform job duties with potential certification for equipment operation
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs with or without assistance and perform repetitive overhead lifting as needed
  • May be required to perform additional duties as assigned
