Job summary

Davidson College is seeking a Rare Materials Cataloger and Collections Manager to enhance discovery of our rare books and historic maps. You will accession, catalog, and digitize materials, while supporting exhibits and instruction in the new George Lawrence Abernethy Library.

You will implement collections care tasks, collaborate with Archives & Special Collections, and help shape policies and workflows for description and access. A strong foundation in MARC 21, DCRM, and RDA is required.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
• Familiarity with rare material description standards (MARC 21, DCRM, RDA) and willingness to learn more.
• Working knowledge of OCLC cataloging utilities.
• Experience creating/editing records in library services platforms (e.g., Alma or FOLIO).
• Knowledge of preservation, handling, housing, and digitization of rare materials.

Responsibilities

• Perform original and complex cataloging for rare books, periodicals, and maps in Alma using MARC 21 and RDA.
• Remediate legacy records to improve discoverability and address outdated language.
• Manage integration between Alma and ArchivesSpace to ensure discovery across platforms.
• Develop policies/workflows for describing rare materials in all formats.
• Digitize materials and add metadata in a digital asset management system.
• Assist in exhibit design, programming, and instruction sessions.
• Coordinate donations and purchases of rare materials.
• Provide collections care and preservation for rare materials.
