The San Diego International Airport is located next to harbor in San Diego, California with a clear view of the ocean and serves commercial aircraft from all over the world. You will be part of a team of professional air traffic controllers who staff the Ramp Tower.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of four (4) years experience as a journey level air traffic controller with the DoD or FAA.
• Mobility and fitness to work in an ATC-type tower including vision, hearing, and speech in English.
• Background investigation and fingerprint checks are required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA/TSA security badge.
• ATC tower rating or certification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate movement of aircraft on the non-movement side of the airport.
• Authorize pushbacks and taxiing to the movement area for handoff to ATC tower.
• Direct aircraft to gates and deconflict with other aircraft in the non-movement area.
• Use systems to provide situational awareness of arrivals and departures.
• Communicate with pilots, dispatchers, and airport personnel via radios and landlines.

The San Diego International Airport is located next to harbor in San Diego, California with a clear view of the ocean and serves commercial aircraft from all over the world.

You will be part of a team of professional air traffic controllers who staff the Ramp Tower.

What We Offer

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary for this role is $31.50/hour; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.

In This Role, You Will

• Use your skills and understanding of the air traffic control system to coordinate the movement of aircraft on the non-movement side of the airport.
• Authorize aircraft pushbacks and taxiing to the movement area for hand off to the air traffic control tower.
• Direct aircraft to the proper gate and deconflict them from other aircraft in the non-movement area.
• Use state of the art systems to provide situational awareness about anticipated aircraft arrivals and departures.
• Communicate with pilots using aviation radios and with dispatchers and airport personnel using FM radios and landlines.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Must Have

• High School Diploma (or GED);
• Minimum of four (4) years experience as a journey level air traffic controller with the United States Department of Defense or FAA;
• Mobility and fitness to safely work in an air traffic control type tower including but not limited to: (i) ability to lean over work consoles/equipment to conduct panoramic surveillance of aircraft; (ii) distant and near vision correctable to 20/20 in each eye, with normal color vision; (iii) speech to communicate effectively and clearly in English; (iv) hearing to demonstrate no chronic disease of the ear that might interfere with the comfortable use of standard or cordless headsets; and (v) no hearing loss in either ear of more than 25 decibels in the 500, 1000 or 2000 Hz ranges and no more than a 20 db loss in the better ear by audiometer, using ANSI (1969) standards;
• Successful completion of an education/experience background investigation as well as a fingerprint based criminal history record check;
• Ability to be granted and maintain a security badge as mandated by the Authority, FAA and TSA;
• Ability to meet all minimum drug screening and prohibitions as established by the Authority and under applicable law;
• Air Traffic Control experience with a tower rating or certification is desirable.
