Job summary

Menzies Aviation in Rockford, IL is hiring for a ramp agent responsible for unloading and loading luggage, freight, and cargo on and off aircraft, in the outbound bag room and baggage claim areas, and for safe operation of small ground vehicles.

The role requires lifting 70 lbs repeatedly, a valid US driver's license, a high school diploma or GED, the ability to pass an FBI background check and obtain a US Customs Seal, and willingness to work days and nights.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must have high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Must pass FBI background and obtain US Customs Seal.
• Must be able to lift 70 lbs repeatedly.
• Must have valid US driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Unload/load luggage, freight and cargo on/off aircraft in outbound bag room and baggage claim areas.
• Operate small specialized ground vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain safe and secure work environment and comply with health, safety and security policies.
• Read loading instructions, manifests and routing tags; follow security procedures.
• Shift: Monday–Saturday (days and nights) and other duties as assigned.

Role Purpose

This role is responsible for Unloading and loading of luggage, freight and cargo on and off commercial aircraft, in the outbound bag room and the baggage claim area as well as safe and efficient cleaning of aircraft cabins. Driving and operating small specialized commercial vehicles. Position requires heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stretching and frequent kneeling.

This role requires you to maintain a safe and secure work environment, in accordance with local health, safety, and security policies and procedures.

What you will be doing:

• Comfortably and continuously lift/move 70 lbs. of cargo and baggage on and off aircraft and transport it between aircraft, airport terminals and air cargo facilities
• Frequent bending, stretching push/pulling, stacking and kneeling in small, confined locations.
• Operate motorized equipment and small specialized commercial vehicles
• Read and interpret aircraft weight and balance loading instructions, hazardous material identification labels, aircraft loading manifests, and baggage and cargo routing tags.
• Conduct physical search of empty interiors and accessible exterior of the aircraft to detect prohibited
  articles and unlawful interferences that may jeopardize the security of the aircraft.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
