Job summary

Swissport is seeking a Ground Handler to provide ground support services under-wing, including loading/unloading baggage and cargo, marshalling aircraft, and servicing water and lavatories. You will operate ground support equipment, ensure safety standards, and follow SOPs to support flight operations.

Qualifications

• Previous ramp experience is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Good communication skills.
• Language skills required.
• Must be able to work in inclement weather.
• Flexible to work on various shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Excellent health and safety awareness.
• Lift heavy objects up to 70 pounds (32 kilograms).

Responsibilities

• Marshall aircraft during arrival and departure.
• Unload passenger luggage and air cargo onto carts or dollies.
• Deliver passenger luggage to claim area and unload onto conveyor system.
• Deliver air cargo to appropriate recipient.
• Drive and operate ground support equipment (tow tractors, belt loaders, loaders, baggage tugs, service trucks, power units, de-icing units, etc.).
• Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
• Comply with QHSE Manual, SOPs and security requirements.
• Follow training and use PPE as instructed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

To provide all necessary and required under-wing ground support services as contracted by the customer to include but not be limited to loading and unloading baggage and cargo, marshalling, water and lavatory servicing.

Your activities

• Marshall aircraft during arrival and departure
• Unload passenger luggage and air cargo, bulk and/or containers/pallets, onto carts and/or dollies
• Unload wheelchairs and child strollers and deliver to designated location
• Provide special handling of luggage/cargo as required/directed
• Deliver passenger luggage to claim area and unload onto conveyor system
• Deliver air cargo to appropriate recipient
• Drive and/or operate ground support equipment to include tow tractors, tow bars, belt loaders, container loaders, baggage tugs, water/lavatory service trucks, aircraft ground power units, aircraft air start units, air stairs, aircraft de-icing units, baggage carts, cargo dollies and passenger vans.
• Collect and load mail, live animals, wheelchairs and child strollers onto aircraft
• Service aircraft water and lavatories
• Inspect ramp areas adjacent to gate and aircraft for debris and remove/dispose of when found.
• Report all equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor/manager
• Ensure deployment of the Corporate QHSE Manual
• Comply with all federal, state, municipal, airport authority and carrier security requirements
• Comply with Swissport's standard operation procedures (SOPs), QHSE Manual and policies
• Follow training and rules, apply correct procedures and use personal protective equipment as instructed
• Only perform tasks for which they are trained for. If in doubt, colleagues shall stop the action and seek advice from the Duty Manager
• Share personal Health & Safety, Environment knowledge with others
• Report any incident, near miss, unsafe act or condition according to this manual. In case of doubt stop the task and consult superior for guidance
• Perform duties conscientiously, without putting themselves, others, or the environment at risk
• Also other duties as assigned
• Comply with the responsibilities detailed in the station's QHSE Management System Manual and the manuals under your responsibility and management, ensuring compliance with the requirements in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISAGO standards.
