Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years in Maintenance in Way (MOW) and/or TY&E.
  • Up-West On-Track Worker and Operating Rules certification.

Apply now and become a part of our exciting journey!Job Summary:The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position will perform on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks and are responsible for job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication and various types of On-Track Safety in controlled and non-controlled track areas.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Provide the required jobsite protection on each assignment, error free and consistent with the rules; including but not limited to radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limitsPerform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure all personnel adhere to the safety requirements of the railroadPrepare and submit required electronic forms including but not limited to: a job set-up form for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as requiredHandle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds, which may be necessary multiple times throughout the dayActively participate in routine reoccurring safety classes and qualification trainingMaintain a high level of communication with the RWIC supervisors and managers regarding the various assignments and schedulesContribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational valuesUphold the organization’s standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all duties and interactionsAdhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulationOther duties as assigned or required to meet the business needsTravel Requirements:This position requires routine and extensive travel across the following states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs.Candidates are eligible to receive daily per diems for meals and hotels, plus mileage reimbursement for all billable days worked.Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Able to complete required physical demands and/or taskAble to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trainsUnderstand the on track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protectedProficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s (Employee in Charge) and assigned work groupProficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work locationAble to place railroad advance warning and stop signsAble to install a railroad derail and apply locking deviceProficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)Required Education and Experience:A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)A minimum of 2 years in Maintenance in Way (MOW) and/or Trade Yard & Engine (TY&E)Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.:UP - West On-Track Worker and Operating RulesWhy RailPros?
