Job summary

RailPros, Inc. seeks a Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) to provide on-site roadway worker protection for live railroad tracks, coordinate job sites, manage dispatcher communications, and oversee on-track safety across multiple states. The role requires handling signs and equipment, safety classes, and adherence to railroad rules.

Travel is extensive across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. GED is required, with at least 2 years of Class I railroad MOW experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years Class I railroad experience in Maintenance of Way (MOW).
• A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Proficient in radio procedures between RWIC/EICs and work groups.
• Ability to place railroad warning signs and operate derail devices.
• Proficient with electronic communications including email and text and standard office applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide jobsite protection in accordance with railroad rules and coordinate with train dispatchers and engineers.
• Conduct daily job briefings with all personnel on site and ensure safety requirements are met.
• Prepare and submit required electronic forms for each flagging assignment and other reports.
• Handle signs, derail and other equipment weighing 15–90 pounds as needed.
• Maintain ongoing communication with RWIC supervisors regarding assignments and schedules.
• Contribute to a positive and safe workplace culture and uphold company policies.

Job Summary:

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position will perform on site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks and are responsible for job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication and various types of On Track Safety in controlled and non-controlled track areas.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide the required jobsite protection on each assignment, error free and consistent with the rules; including but not limited to radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, granting permission for trains and on track equipment to proceed through limits
• Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure all personnel adhere to the safety requirements of the railroad
• Prepare and submit required electronic forms including but not limited to: a job set up form for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as required
• Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds, which may be necessary multiple times throughout the day
• Actively participate in routine reoccurring safety classes and qualification training
• Maintain a high level of communication with the RWIC supervisors and managers regarding the various assignments and schedules
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values

• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulation
• Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs

Travel Requirements:

• This position requires routine and extensive travel across the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
• Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs.
• Candidates are eligible to receive daily per diems for meals and hotels, plus mileage reimbursement for all billable days worked.

QualificationsKnowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Able to complete required physical demands and/or task
• Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
• Understand the on track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
• Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group
• Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
• Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
• Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
• Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)

Required Education and Experience:

• A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• A minimum of 2years of Class I railroad experience in Maintenance of Way (MOW)
