Job summary

RailWorks in Minneapolis, MN seeks an Equipment Operator to perform heavy equipment tasks at railroad sites, support construction and maintenance, and assist with related duties. This novice-level role requires one year of prior experience operating heavy equipment, a valid driver’s license, and a commitment to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.
• Driver's license and reliable transportation; able to travel.
• Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures.
• Ability to read and understand construction specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, maintains, and operates maintenance equipment such as backhoes and loaders.
• Operates equipment to move, load, or unload material or perform other rail related maintenance tasks.
• Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
• Communicates with others using verbal and non-verbal hand signals while operating equipment.
• Keeps records of material and equipment usage and problems encountered.
• Performs equipment safety, maintenance, and brake checks.
• Completes daily inspection reports and submits to foreman.
• Completes job briefs with other employees in/around machine and work area.
• Coordinates machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to signals.
• Locates underground services prior to beginning work.
• Repairs and maintains equipment (including daily greasing).
• Studies instructions, plans, and diagrams to establish work requirements.
