Job summary

Savage is hiring a locomotive operator at our Terrell, NC location. This full-time role involves 12-hour rotating shifts (6-6) and a starting pay of $23/hour, rising to $28/hour after successful training.

You will spot cars, move railcars, and participate in safety-focused operations with on-site training provided. Benefits include PTO, holidays, profit sharing, and comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k) coverage.

Responsibilities

• Assist with spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train
• Responsible for daily railcar movement
• Learn to operate a locomotive - training/certification provided
• Visually inspect rail cars and perform minor repairs
• Prepare necessary paperwork for the movement of railcars
• Understand and adhere to rail rules and safety regulations
• Work 12-hour rotating shifts
• One year or more of Rail Industry experience is a plus
• Work experience in an industrial environment is also a plus

What you need to be successful in this role:

• Assist with spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train

Physical Requirements:

• Climb on and off railcars and locomotives
• Pass the plant's site requirement test
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Walk 1+ miles per day on uneven terrain, etc.
• Ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
