Job summary

Metra is seeking a Sheet Metal Worker to handle repair, inspection, cleaning, rebuilding, and maintenance of rolling stock used in commuter service. The role involves setting up fabrication and welding equipment, fabricating piping, and maintaining shop piping systems.

The position requires four years of sheet metal experience, preferably in rail, the ability to climb around cars and locomotives, and the strength to lift up to 100 pounds. It is a unionized role with pay rates governed by the CBA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum four years as a sheet metal worker, preferably in railroad.
• Able to climb on top, under, and around passenger cars and locomotives.
• Must lift and move up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Oversee repair, inspection, cleaning, rebuilding, and maintenance of 1,180 rolling stock pieces.
• Set up and operate fabrication and forming machines; install piping systems.
• Maintain and repair water, steam, gas piping in the shop facility; service water coolers and related systems.
• Perform duties under varied weather conditions and in indoor/outdoor environments.
