Job summary

Watco is seeking a Railcar Inspector/Maintenance Tech to keep freight moving. You’ll inspect, repair, and re-rail railcars in compliance with FRA and AAR regulations, document work, and support site operations.

This role requires welding capability, blueprint reading, equipment operation, and meticulous record-keeping; training is provided at Watco's Safe Performance Center, with 10-hour shifts and overtime.

Qualifications

  • Proficient with cutting torch and welding; completed 5F welding qualification test for pipe.
  • Ensure compliance with FRA and AAR regulations while performing duties.
  • Reads blueprints accurately and interprets technical drawings to guide repairs.
  • Performs repairs on railcars and related fleet vehicles.
  • Maintains accurate records of all repairs and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain and repair rail cars in accordance with FRA and AAR requirements.
  • Re-rail cars and provide damage estimates at derailment sites.
  • Prepare billing repair cards in line with AAR office manual.
  • Identify AAR/FRA violations when present on railcars.
  • Operate mobile cranes, wheel trucks, and forklifts safely.
  • Collaborate with other departments during derailment site operations.

Job Summary

Hourly Pay Rate: $23.00

Schedule: Mon-Thurs (10hr days with OT)

Responsible for rail car inspection, maintenance and repairs in accordance with FRA and AAR regulations. Must re-rail cars and provide estimate damages at derailment sites, make out billing repair cards in compliance with AAR office manual, and identify AAR/FRA violations when present on railcars.This job description is general and illustrative of the type of duties required for this position.   • Collaborates with other departments during derailment site operations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Education

Must be 18 years of age or older with High School or GED equivalent
