Transco Rail Services, along with Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) and Procor, delivers full‑service railcar repair and maintenance through a broad North American network of fixed shops and mobile field service teams. We serve freight and tank car fleets across multiple industries, with a focus on safety, compliance, quality, and reliable service.

Primary Job Functions
  • Understand and perform all work outlined under supervision.
  • Conduct railcar inspections to ensure compliance with FRA, AAR, and customer requirements.
  • Perform repairs using current safety and quality standards and procedures.
  • Perform mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars, including tank and hopper cars when required.
  • Occasionally perform welding repairs when needed.
  • Coordinate and complete repairs efficiently and within assigned hours.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area and report potential hazards.
  • Notify supervision of any materials and/or equipment needed to complete job tasks.
  • Interact well with team members and supervision.
  • Meet customer expectations and deliver a best‑in‑class experience.
  • Ensure accurate and complete invoicing, inspection, and work order information.
  • Actively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections.
  • Follow all safety rules and practices.
  • May be involved in safety committees or initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Job‑related knowledge, including following written instructions.
  • Ability to safely operate machinery, including large work vehicles, forklifts, and trailers.
  • Dependable and reliable attendance for scheduled shifts, including overtime.
  • Ability to learn basic railcar knowledge.
  • Proficiency with basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • DOT requirements clearance is a plus.
  • Ability to perform confined space entry or monitoring and create hot work permits.
  • Ability to pass required NDT disciplines and function‑specific certifications, which may include tank car welding and a strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
  • Ability to obtain Welding and Airbrake Test certifications within 6–12 months, depending on location.
  • Preferred: welding/mechanical experience or railcar knowledge.
  • Legal right to work in the United States now and in the future without sponsorship.
Environmental and Working Conditions

The physical environment requires working both inside and outside in heat or cold, wet, humid, dry, or dusty conditions. Exposure to heights requiring fall protection equipment may occur, and personal protective equipment must be used as appropriate.

  • Moderate to heavy physical effort; must lift 35 lbs consistently.
  • Lift and carry necessary equipment to railcar for work.
  • Safely climb, walk, and balance on top of railcars while performing repair work.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules to avoid injury.
