Job summary

Guardian Rail, LLC is seeking a hands-on Railcar Cleaner to inspect, clean, and maintain interiors of tank and hopper cars in a heavy mechanical environment.

You will read work orders, perform cleaning per procedures, and work with the crew to meet tight schedules while following EHS policies. A strong focus on safety, PPE use, and recordkeeping is essential to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• Issue cleaning of railcar interiors per procedures and orders.
• Ability to read, write and communicate English at a proficient level.
• Ability to learn operation details and pass a knowledge exam.
• Recordkeeping of EHS, QA and Cleaning policies and checklists.
• Wear and maintain PPE including steel-toed boots, eye/ear protection and respirators.
• Fitness for duty clearance is required.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and in various environmental conditions.

Summary DescriptionGuardian Rail is proud to operate one of the country’s leading freight rail services and transportation companies with a large network of freight and tank car repair facilities, a nationwide network of running repair agents, and a rail services division that operates short line railroads and contract switching and transloading sites.Incumbents in this role are responsible for all aspects of rail car cleaning and the inspection, care and maintenance of equipment used in the cleaning process. Candidates must be able to read and understand Guardian Rail work orders, make safe confined space entries while wearing movement and sight restricting personal protective equipment with limited lighting to clean the interior of tank and hopper cars in compliance with Guardian Rail EHS policies and procedures. Inspect clean railcar interiors for compliance with customer, FRA, AAR and Guardian Rail requirements and complete cleaning checklists as required. The environment requires working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, in high and low precarious places, confined spaces.The work type is best described as heavy, hands-on mechanical work. Work is very physical, and without proper work planning can result in out of position pushing, pulling, and lifting. Proper body mechanics, positioning and lifting techniques can be very important. Employees are urged to seek help when needed with heavier tasks, and to use lifting equipment where necessary. The positioning of the work being performed can change very frequently.Tools used: Various heavier air and electric powered tools and equipment are used such as steam hoses, car cleaning equipment, pumps, and impact wrenches.
