Pacific Rail Services is hiring for an Entry-Level Rail Yard Operator in Harrisburg, PA. This role comes with comprehensive on-the-job training; no CDL or prior hostler experience is required, and you will be employed directly through Pacific Rail Services rather than as a railroad employee.

The position offers full-time hours with 19.50 per hour and opportunities for raises and overtime, potentially reaching $55,000–$70,000 annually, plus benefits after 60 days.

Qualifications

• No prior yard jockey experience required; previous outdoor work, driving, or physical labor preferred
• Minimum age of 18 with a valid driver's license
• Successful completion of a 7-year background check (no felonies within the last 7 years, no jailtime or probation within the last 5 years, or criminal offenses that could disqualify)
• Ability to pass a drug test and a physical capabilities test
• No GED or diploma required
• Applicants must currently live within a 45-minute commute of Harrisburg, PA; relocation candidates will not be considered

Responsibilities

• Operate a jockey truck, maneuvering 53‑ft trailers, containers, and chassis around the rail yard
• Engage in various ground duties, including climbing on and off railcars, securing tracks, and handling inner box connectors
• Assist crane operators with equipment loading and unloading using hand signals
• Play a key role in stacking and unstacking chassis, and loading and unloading chassis racks
• Fulfill other assigned duties in a dynamic and team‑oriented work environment

Entry-Level Rail Yard Operator

We are hiring for Entry‑Level Rail Yard Operators who will receive comprehensive on‑the‑job training. No CDL is required, and no prior hostler driving experience is necessary. You will be employed directly through Pacific Rail Services and will not be a railroad employee.

Compensation

• $19.50 per hour (overtime rate is $29.25)
• 2 raises in your first and second year, 1 raise yearly after the third year
• Potential to earn $55,000 - $70,000 annually in hourly pay with overtime

Shifts

• Shifts are ElGHT hours with a mandatory four‑hour holdover when necessary
• No daylight shifts available
• Shift start times: 5:00pm and 10:00pm
