Job summary

Norfolk Southern in Hawaii is seeking an hourly union locomotive operator responsible for the safe and expedient movement of railcars in and out of the mixing center.

This role involves operating locomotives, working on a rotating 3/4 schedule, and performing duties on site with varied shifts. The position is full-time and union-based, with emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Work flexible hours and overtime as needed including Holidays.
  • Walk and work on uneven surfaces with minimum clearances.
  • Be able to lift minimum of 40 pounds overhead.
  • Possess valid drivers’ license.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical, Human Performance Evaluation.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment drug screening.
  • Successfully complete e-verify background and screening process.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Diploma / GED.
  • Professional appearance and etiquette required.
  • Be able to learn, understand and use hand signals.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and operates locomotives to ensure safe movement and operation.
  • Thorough knowledge of railroad ground rules and switcher rule book.
  • Thorough knowledge of FRA Terminal Air Brake Test.
  • Ensure quality/safety standards are maintained.
  • Ability to follow AAR, FRA and Norfolk Southern operation’s guidelines.
  • See that all tools, radios and machinery are treated and maintained properly.
  • Understand radio communication and hand signals as given by the conductor.
  • Ability to learn job functions/quality standards in a timely manner.
  • Follow and implement Quality Systems to ensure that procedures are followed.

Pay: $27.00 per hour
