Job summary

Olsson is seeking an Assistant Engineer to join the Rail Structures team. This entry-level role supports design tasks, modeling, and technical calculations for railroad projects, under supervision.

You will gain experience with MicroStation, Risa 3D, and Bluebeam while collaborating with senior staff and mentoring interns. The position requires a Bachelor's in civil/structural engineering, EI certification (or pursuit), and strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering
• Must possess or obtain Engineer Intern certificate (EI)
• Experience in MicroStation, Risa 3D analysis, and Bluebeam Revu preferred
• Strong communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
• Ability to contribute and work well on a team

Responsibilities

• Assist with project design elements using standard techniques and established methods.
• Perform entry-level plan production with clearly defined instructions.
• Gain experience working within design and modeling software.
• Support senior staff with project schedules and technical engineering calculations.
• Contribute to limited portions of broader projects under direct supervision.
• Gather and prepare research for technical reports.
• Provide mentoring to student interns by answering questions and guiding routine assignments.
• Travel and work in various terrain and weather conditions at project sites in different construction stages.

Education

Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering

Engineer Intern certificate (EI)
