Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a Lead Radiologic Technologist to ensure the ongoing quality, productivity, and efficiency of the radiology department. You will assist physicians in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by preparing patients and operating imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic scans.

The role requires ARRT in Radiography (RT(R)) certification, a high school diploma or GED, and 2 years of radiology experience.

Qualifications

  • 2 Year / Associate Degree preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology program—required.
  • Minimum 2 years of diagnostic radiology experience preferred.

JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Radiologic Technologist will provide leadership and is responsible for the effective ongoing quality, productivity, and efficiency of the radiology department. The Lead Radiologic Technologist will assist physicians in the performance of diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the imaging equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans. The Lead Radiologic Technologist will spend 90% of time in direct patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

High School Diploma or GED required. 2 Year / Associate Degree Preferred Graduate of an accredited Radiology program - Required

Experience:

2 years of experience in diagnostic radiology preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure:

Certified and registered by ARRT in Radiography- RT(R) Required

Additional Skills/Requirements Required:

Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures, computer/information systems, equipment used in performing assigned duties, application of safety and infection control policies and procedures. Possesses abilities in team building, decision making, and conflict management. Able to perform and assist others with procedures and direct diagnostic radiology workflow. Applies advanced skills in area of specialization. Adapts procedures, protocols, techniques and equipment to meet special needs.

  • Patient Care: Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
    • Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
    • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients’ arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
    • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence.
    • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.
  • Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
    • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
    • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
  • Technical Competency: : Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.
    • Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
    • Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.
    • Performs any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment.
    • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
    • Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demand Code:

Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is $35.36 - $44.62 hourly.


Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
