Position Overview: Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care, supporting the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

  • Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
  • Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire (West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland) or within one year (Pennsylvania).
  • Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State and Federal criminal background checks as required.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:

  1. Rotate across all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills (e.g., Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
  2. Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, service request, and protocols, with supervision and periodic evaluations.
  3. Produce high-quality images using appropriate equipment and systems.
  4. Select exposure factors to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
  5. Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff through shielding, collimation, and other safety measures.
  6. Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology to optimize procedures and ensure safety.
  7. Assess patient needs, providing support for comfort, hygiene, and mobility.
  8. Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays per protocols.
  9. Educate patients about procedures and answer questions.
  10. Collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality radiology services.
  11. Engage in problem solving, system improvements, and performance initiatives.
  12. Adhere to ethical codes, policies, and regulations.
  13. Report equipment failures immediately.
  14. Complete required training and competencies.
  15. Position patients accurately according to protocols.
  16. Coordinate daily workflow.
  17. Supervise and instruct radiology students within policy guidelines.
  18. Ensure completion of all imaging process components.
Physical Requirements
  • Differentiate shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
  • Exposure to minimal radiation, monitored by safety protocols.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with moving parts.
Skills and Abilities
  • Positive interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team.
  • Prioritization and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to adapt positioning and techniques based on patient condition.
