Job Description

Performs routine radiographic, fluoroscopic, and portable examinations in the diagnostic department of Radiology, on nursing units, outpatient areas, and the surgery department.

Responsibilities

1. Takes radiographs per physician orders.
2. A. 95% of films are satisfactory as measured by repeat rate.
3. B. Exams are to be completed following procedure outlined in the routine book including signing out requests with correct information.
4. C. All requests must contain history pertinent to ordered exam.
5. 2. Must be versatile within the diagnostic department of Radiology.
6. A. Possesses ability to work in the following areas without assistance: Routine room, IVP, fluoroscopy, portable (c-arm and routine radiograph), and GU.
7. B. Must be able to perform all exams listed in the routine book.
8. 3. Protects all patients and employees from unnecessary radiation.
9. A. Technical factors used are to be diagnostic while not subjecting anyone to unnecessary radiation. Shielding is to be used on patients when doing so would not compromise the purpose of the exam.
10. B. Evidence of coning and use of lead orientation markers is to be present on all films.
11. 4. Has knowledge of the front desk operations as well as the computer systems and reports all equipment problems to manager and Clinical Engineers.
12. A. Can schedule all exams done through the whole department - alerting a supervisor when necessary.
13. B. Can use the centralized transport program for patient transportation.
14. C. Can look up pertinent information in the computer systems concerning patient exams, ordering, reprinting, or canceling when necessary.
15. D. Able to interact professionally with other departments.
16. E. Can effectively call in needed on-call imaging associates as required.
17. F. All equipment problems are called to the clinical engineering 24-hour phone number. Messages are communicated to co-workers, written or verbal.
18. G. Managers are alerted to all equipment problems (paging during periods of on-call) if necessary.
19. 5. Other duties as directed.
20. A. Remains available for assignment as needed.
21. B. Assisting the Radiologic Technologist Students.
22. C. Performs operationally required duties associated with equipment quality assurance, regulatory compliance (ODH, Joint Commission), ordering of supplies, scheduling of staff, and hospital and departmental audits.
23. 6. Additional task/responsibility:
24. A. Access to patient records in the course of normal operations to conduct the business of medical imaging is a responsibility of all designated personnel. Access is limited to records pertinent to patient care or regulatory requirements and only when necessary to carry out duties.
25. B. Confidentiality and protection of all records is the responsibility of each individual. Access may occur for pre-procedure preparation, during patient care, post-procedure follow-up, QA processes, retrospective reviews, or responding to daily calls.
26. C. Documentation of access must occur where appropriate and feasible in log form, comments in EPIC, HIM, or McKesson, or other available media/format.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

Education: Graduation from ARRT-accredited Radiologic Technology school, and/or completed on-the-job training allowing certification.

Experience: Requirements not specified.

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of medical terminology, isolation and sterile techniques, patient positioning, and equipment operation (x-ray machines and printers).

Licenses & Certifications:

Must have graduated from an ARRT-accredited program and be eligible for ARRT certification in Radiology. Must obtain ARRT(R) certification and a valid Ohio license within 4 weeks of start date to operate RGE.
