Job description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Supports the Organization’s mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the Organization’s Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and policy requirements.

Assists physicians in performing a variety of interventional radiology procedures. Responsible for the operation and quality control of the radiological equipment in accordance with the Organization’s policies, procedures, and training. Assists with the inventory and supply management.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform various activities necessary for the preparation of the patient and the procedure room for the radiology procedures in compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Review patient specific procedure orders to determine materials/supplies that will be needed.
  • Set up and stock the procedure room and procedure trays with all needed supplies and interventional equipment prior to procedure and clean the procedure room post procedure, including but not limited to cleaning of equipment/machinery.
  • Conduct all necessary preparations of the patient procedure room and document when appropriate.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient, answer questions and address patient concerns.
  • Assist with preparing the patient for the surgical procedure by positioning, shaving and prepping.
  • Perform patient transfers and transport the patient to and from the procedure room.
  • Input patient data into the C‑Arm.
  • Act as scrub assistant assisting the physician during interventional procedures and administer fluoroscopy to enable the physician to see flow through the blood vessels to identify areas in need of intervention while maintaining a sterile technique according to the established company policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Comply with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality.
  • Draw up intravenous medication and label as per the organization’s medication labeling policy.
  • Process X‑ray images and archives to the image repository, CD or DVD to comply with the organization’s policies and procedures for patient medical records and state regulations.
  • Provide outstanding quality of patient care by supporting and driving the organization’s quality standards through meeting regulatory requirements and the practice of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), including the use of CQI tools.
  • Assist with implementing the organization’s quality goals and facility‑specific action plans to achieve the organization’s quality standards.
  • Ensure medical records are accurate, complete and in compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures. Maintain the integrity of medical records, file paperwork in patient files according to policies and procedures and perform audits on a regular basis.
  • Assist with maintaining environmental integrity and aesthetics. Ensure all areas are clean, sanitary and safe daily. Ensure all facility equipment and instruments are in proper working condition by inspecting equipment daily before and after procedures.
  • Make recommendations regarding replacement of equipment and repairs.
  • Assist with disposal of hazardous waste materials, dirty linen, and rugs.
  • Prepare, organize, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
  • Attend and participate in Governing Body meetings, assisting with meeting agenda and gathering of data/material for meetings.
  • Ensure effective communication with physicians.
  • Attend and participate in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics.
  • Work with the physicians and staff to ensure all necessary instruments and equipment are on hand.
  • Address physician concerns in areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in training and orienting new employees.
  • Ensure patient billing is accurate and timely by reviewing all procedures, documenting patient equipment charges, and verifying CPT and ICD‑9 codes are correct.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering of supplies and re‑stocking of supplies.
  • Act as Radiation Safety Officer; monitor radiation badges and conduct in‑services regarding radiation safety.
  • Participate in all facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans to address any deficiencies identified.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The work environment is characteristic of a health‑care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds and perform patient transfers and positioning of patients up to 400 pounds. Must be able to stand in a protective apron for up to 45–60 minutes.

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; and Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
  • Current ARRT Certification and/or State Licensure (as per state regulations).
  • Interventional Radiology certificate preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
  • 4 – 6 years’ related experience desirable.
  • 1 year experience preferred for candidates with ARRT.
  • Working knowledge of interventional equipment (including C‑Arm and Ultrasound equipment).
  • Experience with interventional procedures, using/ordering/maintaining required materials/supplies for each procedure.
  • Knowledge and experience of sterile techniques.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective devices to be utilized when operating radiology systems.
  • Successfully complete BLS certification.
  • Experience with monitoring and maintaining inventory.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and related software such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
