Job summary

Calhoun Liberty Hospital is seeking a Radiology Technologist to perform x-ray, CT and related imaging procedures with emphasis on patient safety and quality. You will prepare patients, operate imaging equipment, and ensure accurate documentation and reporting in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Ideal candidates hold ARRT certification, certified in BLS, graduate of an accredited Radiology program, and demonstrate strong communication in English.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology.
  • Current ARRT certification.
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA or AHSI).
  • Ability to speak, read and write English.
  • Good listening and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operates radiological imaging equipment including x-ray and CT per safety standards.
  • Prepares patients for exams and assists in scheduling and clerical duties.
  • Evaluates images for diagnostic quality and obtains additional images as needed.
  • Explains procedures to patients and obtains informed waivers when necessary.
  • Prints film or burns CDs and files related paperwork for interpretation.
  • Maintains equipment, performs basic troubleshooting, and coordinates repairs.
  • Maintains room cleanliness and stock levels; ensures readiness before patient entry.
  • Monitors patient wellbeing during exams and maintains confidentiality.
  • Communicates with referring physicians and radiologists to determine appropriate exams.
  • Completes exam reports and assists in coordinating patient care.

Job description

The Radiology Technologist (Rad Tech) performs operations of x-ray, imaging equipment, and CT, as well as all other equipment within the department, as well as preparation of various types of diagnostic procedures in accordance with recognized safety standards; assists in scheduling and preparing patients for exams; performs departmental and clerical duties as assigned; demonstrates age-specific competencies in the care of the spectrum of patient populations, as well as continually maintaining hospital compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulatory standards.

  • Ensures operation of radiological equipment by completing preventive maintenance instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Positions patients and uses immobilization if necessary
  • Selects proper mode to produce correct exposure factors.
  • Evaluates images for diagnostic quality, obtaining additional images as needed.
  • Explains procedures to patients.
  • Prints film or burns CDs if warranted. Matches with the appropriate paperwork for interpretation.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work therein.
  • Produces high quality diagnostic images in a timely manner while providing excellent patient care.
  • Treats patients and customers, including family members or care providers that may accompany the patient, with courtesy, professionalism and respect.
  • Monitors patients' wellbeing during exam; recognizes patient discomfort or medical problems and takes appropriate action.
  • Checks patient history, and obtains appropriate signed waivers, if necessary.
  • Consults with referring physician and/or radiologist when necessary to determine appropriate exam.
  • Completes all paperwork and exam reports associated with technical procedures.
  • Responds to physician questions and needs regarding patient procedures.
  • Checks referral for appropriate study based on patient history.
  • Keeps exam rooms and dressing booths clean and properly stocked with supplies.
  • Assures room is ready prior to the patient entering the room (i.e. equipment is operable, all supplies are readily available, and has been appropriately cleaned and prepped).
  • Handles delicate situations in a supportive and empathetic manner ("good bedside manner") while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding exam outcomes or potential issues.
  • Assists in maintaining patient schedules and accommodates addon patients when requested.
  • Communicates delays or changes in the schedule to the appropriate person(s).
  • Exercises sound judgment regarding image quality; seeks guidance from radiologist if concerned about what scan reveals and obtains prior approval before doing additional views in order to better diagnose the patient.
  • Ensuring patient is released with proper followup information.
  • Guides patients through a process by discussing the steps and answering their questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA or AHSI)
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Must be able to speak, read and write the English language
