Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Diagnostic Services, performs interpretive patient care and technical functions to ensure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients. Provides expert diagnostic radiological imaging/mammography procedures to assure a high level of quality care and service to patients, physicians, and customers in and outside of the Radiology Department, in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Cozad Community Health System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives and reviews requests for radiologic studies. Reads requisition and physician’s referral or order to assure correct exam is performed.
  • Accepts patients and assesses condition to determine proper handling and any special requirements. Ensures best patient care and documents as exam warrants.
  • Reviews available clinical data from charts to alert nurse/provider to any possible contraindications for procedures.
  • Assesses patient condition accurately determining patient’s ability to comply with the physical requirements of the examination to minimize patient or exam problems. Provides competent, safe, and effective patient care.
  • Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the Radiology Department, operating in rooms and at patient’s bedside, selecting technical factors to ensure high-quality imagines using the (ALARA) As Low As Reasonably Achievable standards.
  • Can utilize all rooms in Department (X-Ray, CT, Mammogram, Ultrasound), as allowed by state law, preferred.
  • Attends all required safety training programs.
  • Records documentation accurately and timely.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control, bloodborne, and airborne pathogen plans.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional and responsible environment.
  • Follows all HIPAA guidelines and promotes and ensures patient safety.
  • Fulfills mission statement by performing job duties with a high level of customer service while contributing to a positive and professional environment.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology program. Proficient with the principles and practices of Radiation Technology as outlined by the State of Nebraska Health and Human Services. Understanding of X-Ray patient care procedures and medical terminology required.

Licensure/Certification
  • Current ARRT Registration or registry eligible
  • Current Nebraska Licensure in a Radiology related field
  • Basic Life Support (CPR)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as physician orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients or employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
