Every other Friday (6a‑6p), Saturday (6a‑6p) and Sunday (7:30a‑5:30p). Rotating Holidays.

Position Overview

The Radiology Student Tech performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures applying ionizing radiation for the purpose of demonstrating structures for interpretation and/or therapeutic intervention by, or at the request of, a licensed practitioner. Responsibilities include preparing equipment used to expose the x‑ray film, developing and organizing films, preparing patient rooms, supplies, and medications (contrast agents). There are two levels:

  • Level I: Transports and monitors patients. Can perform x‑rays (abdomen, upper, and lower extremities) under supervision, once required clinical competencies have been completed as per the radiology program at the designated school.
  • Level II: Performs x‑rays unsupervised (includes fluoroscopy and surgery) after completing the required clinical competencies for the designated radiology program.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be enrolled in a CAHEA (Committee for Accreditation of Allied Health Education and Accreditation) accredited radiology program or equivalent.
  • Radiology Student Tech II must have completed 12 months of the CAHEA radiological technologist program.
Certification
  • Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
Experience
  • Previous clinical rotation experience required.

Physical Demands
  • Moderately active work involving sitting and frequent movement throughout the office and facility, and traveling to another facility within the SRHS service area.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, with negligible force.
  • Exposure to body fluids, sputum and tissues that may carry infectious disease.
  • Repetitive wrist, hand and finger movements while operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard.
  • Requirement to perceive normal speaking levels at close vision and adjust focus between monitors and printed materials.
  • Ability to remain active for extended periods and to work schedules that may change based on hospital needs.

  • Superior communication, speaking, and written skills.
  • Emotional stability to handle high stress and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
