Job summary

Bleckley-Memorial-Hospital is seeking an experienced ultrasound technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound exams across abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and cardiac studies. The role includes operating equipment, maintaining patient comfort, and ensuring high-quality images for interpretation.

The ideal candidate will have an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, ARDMS certification, and 3+ years of experience, with registry preferences in AB/OB-GYN and AE/RDCS.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • ARDMS registration required.
  • Registry in AB/OB-GYN preferred.
  • Registry in AE and/or RDCS preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of diagnostic medical sonography experience preferred.
  • Experience performing general ultrasound examinations and echocardiography is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols.
  • Performs abdominal, small parts, obstetric, gynecological, vascular, and other specialty studies as appropriate.
  • Performs transthoracic echocardiograms and other cardiac ultrasound procedures.
  • Operates ultrasound imaging equipment and adjusts imaging techniques for quality exams.
  • Positions and assists patients, ensuring comfort and dignity.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality prior to interpretation.
  • Assists with ultrasound-guided procedures as needed.
  • Maintains patient records in EMR and PACS and adheres to infection control policies.

Job description

Performs the necessary job duties to provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and exceptional customer service.

Job Duties:

  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders and established departmental protocols.
  • Performs general ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, small parts, obstetric, gynecological, vascular, and other specialty studies as appropriate.
  • Performs transthoracic echocardiograms and other cardiac ultrasound procedures as required.
  • Operates ultrasound imaging equipment and associated devices.
  • Selects appropriate imaging techniques and adjusts equipment settings to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
  • Positions and assists patients as needed to obtain quality examinations while maintaining patient comfort and dignity.
  • Evaluates ultrasound images for technical quality and completeness prior to submission for interpretation.
  • Assists physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures as needed.
  • Maintains patient records and accurately documents examinations in the electronic medical record and PACS.
  • Practices infection prevention and maintains aseptic technique as appropriate.
  • Assumes responsibility for the physical and psychological needs of patients while in the Medical Imaging Department.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and initiates appropriate life support measures when necessary.
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment and reports equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Maintains an orderly, clean, and safe work environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned work areas.
  • Promotes a climate conducive to learning for co-workers and students.
  • Assists personnel with patient care as needed.
  • Rotates schedules within the department and other shifts as required.
  • Assists and/or transports patients using wheelchair or stretcher as conditions warrant.
  • Is able to safely lift up to 50 pounds using proper body mechanics.
  • Requests assistance when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Current registration with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required. Registry in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN) preferred. Registry in Adult Echocardiography (AE) and/or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) preferred.

Training/Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years of diagnostic medical sonography experience preferred. Experience performing general ultrasound examinations and echocardiography is required.
