Qualifications

Job Description

Accountable to the Diagnostic Radiology Lead Technologist, Assistant Manager of Radiology, and Manager. Operates general, fluoroscopic, and portable radiographic equipment to perform a variety of radiology examinations/procedures on pediatric inpatients/outpatients. Applies prescribed ionizing radiation solely for the purpose of producing diagnostic-quality images under the supervision of a Physician.

Responsibilities
  1. Assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness, involving patient/parent/caregiver in care and exam/procedure.
  2. Demonstrate age-related competency and cultural sensitivity. Introduce self and role. Explain procedures thoroughly to patients and/or parents before performing. Perform radiologic exams/procedures, allowing time for questions. Provide support and effective communication within the department and healthcare team. Work efficiently as a team member. Consult with physicians, RNs, and other technologists to ensure quality imaging services.
  3. Adhere to a culture of safety by washing hands and sanitizing equipment as directed.
  4. Ensure timeliness and accuracy in performing requested exams, following protocols, and notifying providers of any recommended changes. Support other modalities within the department as needed.
  5. Perform diagnostic exams in all supported areas including ED, OR, and off-site locations, ensuring high-quality images with proper patient demographics, positioning, technique, and markers. Minimize radiation dose following ALARA principles.
  6. Educate and mentor new technologists and students, evaluating their proficiency.
  7. Utilize information technology systems effectively, ensuring complete and accurate documentation in the patient medical record. Follow all relevant policies and procedures.
  8. Coordinate equipment maintenance and servicing as required.
  9. Be available to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays, including rotating shifts and on-call duties.
  10. Support the organization’s mission, values, and goals through exemplary behavior and customer service.
  11. Practice within the scope of the CT Radiologic license and ARRT (R) certification.
  12. Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program recognized by the ARRT.
License and/or Certification Required
  • Current Connecticut Radiographer License (with a 90-day period for new graduates to obtain it).
  • ARRT (R) registration, with a 90-day period for new graduates to obtain certification.
  • Current BLS certification upon hire.
