Job Description

Accountable to the Diagnostic Radiology Lead Technologist, Assistant Manager of Radiology, and Manager. Operates general, fluoroscopic, and portable radiographic equipment to perform a variety of radiology examinations/procedures on pediatric inpatients/outpatients. Applies prescribed ionizing radiation solely for the purpose of producing diagnostic quality images under the supervision of a Physician.

Responsibilities

1. Assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness. Involves patient/parent/caregiver in care and exam/procedure.
2. Demonstrate age-related competency and cultural sensitivity. Introduce self and role. Explain procedure thoroughly to patient and/or parent before performing the procedure. Perform radiologic exams/procedures. Encourage questions. Provide support and effective communication to department staff and healthcare team. Work efficiently as a team member. Consult with physicians, RNs, and other technologists to ensure quality imaging services.
3. Adhere to a culture of safety. Wash hands and sanitize equipment as directed.
4. Ensure timeliness and accuracy in performing requested exams. Perform radiologic exams per protocol. Notify appropriate provider of recommended changes to the exam. Support other modalities within the department as required.
5. Perform diagnostic exams across all supported areas including ED, OR, onsite, and off-site radiology locations. Ensure all images are of diagnostic quality, including correct patient demographics, positioning, technique, and laterality markers. Minimize radiation dose following ALARA principles, including shielding patients appropriately.
6. Educate and mentor new technologists and students. Evaluate clinical and technical proficiency.
7. Utilize information technology systems effectively. Ensure images and documentation are complete and accurate in the medical record. Follow all hospital and department policies and protocols.
8. Coordinate equipment service as needed.
9. May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Rotate shifts and on-call responsibilities.
10. Support the organization’s mission, values, and goals through professional behavior. Demonstrate exemplary customer service.
11. Practice within the scope of the CT Radiologic license and ARRT (R) certification.
12. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required:

• Graduate of an ARRT-accredited Radiologic Technologist program.

License and/or Certification Required:

• Current Connecticut Radiographer License or must obtain within 90 days of employment.
• ARRT (R) certification as a Radiologic Technologist or must obtain within 90 days with documentation of program completion.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
