U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs—Maryland Health Care System Imaging Service—seeks a radiologist to interpret imaging studies and perform image-guided procedures across CT, MRI, US, radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, and nuclear medicine.

The role includes supervising trainees, leading operational workflows, and engaging in teaching affiliations with a university partner. The physician will review exam requests, ensure protocol appropriateness, support quality assurance and accreditation

Qualifications

• Interpreting imaging studies and performing image-guided procedures as defined by clinical privileges.
• Experience with CT, MRI, US, radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography and nuclear medicine.
• Oversight of contrast administration and quality assurance; participation in peer review.
• Teaching and supervising trainees; active participation in departmental meetings and clinical conferences.

Job description

The VA Maryland Health Care System Imaging Service covers imaging provided at three facilities with a total of 530 beds. The department supports a full range of radiology services, and maintains an affiliation with the University of Maryland Medical Center. Teaching is part of the clinical workflow, and research opportunities are available for those who are interested.

Major Duties Include:

Responsible for interpreting imaging studies and/or performing image guided procedures as defined by the clinical privileges requested and approved by the VA Maryland Health Care System Credentialing and Privileging (C & P) Board.

Imaging modalities which the candidate may be responsible for include: CT, MRI, US, general radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, and nuclear medicine.

Review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe exam protocols, provide oversight of technical image quality, provide clinical oversight of medication/contrast administration, and actively participate in various aspects of quality assurance and accreditation including peer review.

Collaborate with department staff, and provide clinical leadership for operational workflows.

The department has a teaching affiliation with a university affiliate and the radiologist will have responsibilities in instructing and supervising trainees who are rotating through the Imaging Service.

Participation in departmental meetings and institutional multi-disciplinary clinical conferences.

Contacting clinical providers as needed to assure effective patient care, discussing evaluation, management, follow-up and other aspects of coordinated, patient-centered care.

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): A recruitment or relocation incentive may be paid to a Highly Qualified candidate.

Performance Pay: Up to 15K annually.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm

Preferred Experience: Fellowship training preferred.
