Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago seeks a Nuclear Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group with a Summer 2027 start. You will collaborate on upgrades and modifications to existing plants, performing radiological dose calculations, shielding design, and source term analyses. Candidates need a B.S.

or M.S. in Nuclear Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred). Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills are required; MS Office proficiency is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering.
  • ABET-accredited program preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Experience with MCNP, RADTRAD, MicroShield, ORIGEN or ARCON96 is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer upgrades/modifications to existing nuclear plants.
  • Perform radiological dose calculations, shielding design calculations, and source term calculations.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams on domestic and international projects.
  • Travel to support project work may be required.

This position has a target start date of Summer 2027.


We offer you a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in nuclear/radiological engineering.


You will work with multi-disciplineengineering project teams engaged in the design and engineeringof upgrades and modifications to existing nuclear power plants in the following areas:



  • Radiological dose calculations

  • Shielding design calculations

  • Radiation source term calculations


In addition, you will:



  • Work on both domestic and international nuclear power plant projects

  • Potential travel to support projects


Qualifications

We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.



  • A Bachelor's or Master's of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering

    • A Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is preferred



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications

  • Experience with some of the following computer programs (preferred):

    • MCNP

    • RADTRAD

    • MicroShield

    • ORIGEN

    • ARCON96

Compensation Range

$62,998 - $90,586
