Job summary

University of South Alabama Health System seeks a Mammography Supervisor to lead technologists, coordinate staffing, and ensure MQSA compliance. Bachelor's degree preferred; ARRT registration required; BCLS; strong leadership required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved course in radiologic technology, and 5 years of experience conducting routine diagnostic procedures, 3 of which were in an advanced modality as applicable
• Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology may substitute for up to one year of experience in conducting routine diagnostic procedures
• BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
• Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology Upon Hire Required
• Advanced registry highly preferred for advanced modalities and may be required for certain modalities
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily supervision and leadership for mammography technologists and assigned support staff.
• Coordinates staffing and schedules to ensure appropriate coverage based on patient volumes and operational needs.
• Participates in interviewing, hiring, on boarding, orientation, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
• Provides ongoing feedback and addresses performance, attendance, behavioral, and competency concerns according to hospital policy.
• Promotes teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and a positive work environment.
• Conducts staff meetings and communicates departmental and organizational updates.
• Ensures staff maintain required licenses, certifications, competencies, continuing education, and mammography-specific qualifications.
• Assists with staff development and succession planning.
• Oversees daily mammography operations to ensure safe, timely, and efficient patient care.
• Maintains clinical competency and provides direct patient care when needed.
• Monitors patient scheduling, workflow, wait times, productivity, and access to services.
• Coordinates screening and diagnostic mammography services and assists with breast procedures as applicable.
• Ensures appropriate patient identification, documentation, positioning, image quality, and radiation safety practices.
• Works with radiologists and staff to resolve clinical and operational issues.
• Promotes and exceptional patient experience with particular attention to privacy, dignity, communication, and patient anxiety associated with breast imaging.
• Ensures ongoing compliance with Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements.
• Supports preparation for and successful completion of FDA/MQSA inspections and ACR accreditation.
• Maintains required regulatory documentation and ensures records are current and readily available for inspection.
• Ensures mammography personnel meet required initial and continuing experience requirements.
• Monitors equipment quality control activities and ensures required testing and documentation are completed within established time frames.
• Collaborates with medical physicists, radiologists, vendors, Biomedical Engineering, and Radiology leadership regarding equipment performance and corrective action.
• Participates in mammography quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Supports collection and review of required mammography outcome data and audit information.
• Identifies compliance concerns and implements corrective action when deficiencies are identified.
• Maintains readiness for regulatory surveys and inspections at all times.
• Promotes a culture of safety and high reliability.
• Ensures compliance with radiation safety, infection prevention, patient identification, medication safety when applicable, and hospital safety standards.
• Reviews safety events, near misses, patient complaints, and operational concerns related to mammography.
• Participates in root cause analysis and development of corrective action plans when appropriate.
• Encourages staff to report safety concerns and opportunities for improvement.
• Monitors compliance with established policies, procedures, and standardized work.
• Assists Radiology leadership with development and management of the mammography operating and capital budgets.
• Monitors productivity, staffing utilization, overtime, supplies, and other departmental expenses.
• Assists with equipment planning, replacement, maintenance, and capital requests.
• Evaluates opportunities to improve efficiency, patient access, throughput, and resource utilization.
• Participates in development and monitoring of departmental performance metrics.
• Assists with implementation of new technology, equipment, services, and workflow improvements.
• Maintains effective working relationships with radiologists, breast surgeons, referring providers, nursing, pathology, oncology, administration, and other departments involved in breast care.
• Serves as a resource for staff regarding mammography procedures, regulatory requirements, workflow, and departmental policies.
• Collaborates with Radiology leadership on departmental goals and strategic initiatives.
• Participates in hospital committees, leadership meetings, quality initiatives, and other activities as assigned.

Additional Information
