Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, DE is seeking a Radiologic Technologist (State Licensed) to join our Diagnostic Imaging team. You will work under the Site Manager and Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor, performing General Radiography procedures with focus on patient safety and image quality.

This position requires enrollment in a Radiologic Technology program with at least one completed year, and certification within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; must be enrolled and have completed at least one year of Radiologic Technology program
• Registered Technologist, Radiography within one year of hire; Medical Radiation Technician; Basic Life Support

Responsibilities

• Prepare procedure room and patient for all studies; disinfect equipment after each patient.
• Educate patient about procedures, obtain history, consent, and verify ICD-9/10 codes.
• Work with Registered Technologists on procedures; position patients and adjust scan times as needed.
• Demonstrate competency on general diagnostic imaging equipment; ensure high-quality images.
• Assist with quality assurance program and keep HIS, RIS, PACS competence up to date.
• Maintain supplies and stock the room to ensure readiness for procedures.

General Summary:

Under the direction of the Site Manager and Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor, demonstrates competency and actively functions in General Radiography procedures.

Responsibilities:

• 1. Prepares procedure room and patient for all studies. Properly disinfect all equipment after each patient, following cleaning policies and protocols. All dirty linen should be disposed and replaced after every patient. Monitor patient flow for efficient daily operations.
• 2. Educates patient regarding ordered procedure and answers any related questions. Obtain patient history and written consent for exam. Verify patient information, check for appropriate ICD-9/10 codes. Utilizes appropriate patient safety screening/consent forms to ensure all safety precautions have been addressed prior to procedure.
• 3. Unregistered Technologists may not administer radiopharmaceuticals or fill out DOT regulatory paperwork, and may only work with a Registered Technologist on the premises. Positions patients and selects appropriate equipment necessary to accomplish procedure depending upon the age of the patient and the physical capabilities. Adjusts scan times and pregnancy forms as needed for patient age or limitations. Monitors patient during procedures; notifies Registered Technologists of reactions or problems.
• 4. Demonstrate competency on all general diagnostic imaging equipment. Ensure quality images for all completed procedures prior to releasing patient by reviewing films or sending images to the PACS System, depending on type of procedure. Imaging QA’s should be less than 2% per month.
• 5. Carries out duties and assumes responsibility for portions of the quality assurance program, as directed by the equipment vendors. Maintain competence with HIS, RIS, PHS and PACS.
• 6. Run a pending work report daily to ensure all exams have been properly charged. PACS and HIS errors are closely tracked and reported on PI reports following the QA policy. The individual error rate should be less than 2%.
• 7. Maintain adequate supplies. Responsible for stocking the room, as assigned, at the beginning of each shift and throughout the day to ensure that the room is always ready to perform the required procedures. Be aware of supply needs and par levels, and report all items that fall below par level to the designated person.
• 8. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED; Must be actively enrolled and at least one completed year of a formal Radiologic Technology program
• Credential(s): Registered Technologist, Radiography within one year of hire Medical Radiation Technician Basic Life Support
• Experience: Required: Completion of 12 months of combined clinical and didactic training in Diagnostic Radiology Program.
