Job Summary

Under indirect supervision, operates radiographic equipment using imaging modalities. Performs general diagnostic radiology procedures in compliance with department protocols, including fluoroscopy, orthopedics, tomography, C-arms, surgery, and portables. Evaluates radiographs for technical quality. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures. Applies principles of radiation protection and provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures.

  • Routinely positioning patients accurately relative to the requirements of the study as stated in the department protocols.
  • Utilizing immobilizing devices such as sponges and sandbags whenever necessary to obtain acceptable radiographs or electronic images.
  • Always taking special care in handling/positioning patients with critical injuries or trauma to avoid further injury.
• Age-Specific Criteria – Demonstrates understanding of cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation processes and:
  • Assessing data reflective of patient status and interpreting appropriate information to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Adjusting technical factors relative to study requirements and physical maturation.
  • Modifying patient positioning techniques relative to physical and cognitive abilities.
  • Always taking special care in handling, positioning, and restraining infants and geriatric patients to avoid injury or excessive radiation exposure.
  • Never leaving infant, pediatric, or disoriented geriatric patient unattended.
• Exercises Good Clinical Judgment – consults with radiologist or other clinician to clarify orders; selects alternate or additional view appropriately; does not attempt examinations that cannot be performed safely; documents clinical activities accurately; completes consultation form and radiology processing record immediately after each procedure.
• Communication – demonstrates good communication skills; clear and concise verbal communication; gives instructions conducive to understanding; courteous and appropriate telephone skills; speaks English with patients (interprets as needed); accurate written communication.

Licenses & Certifications

• Radiologic Technologist Certificate – California
• Certified Radiologic Technologist – Fluoroscopy Certificate (California) within 4 months of hire
• Radiologic Technologist Certification within 4 months of hire from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
• Basic Life Support within 4 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years experience as a staff technologist.
• CRT Mammography certification.
• ARRT Mammography qualification.

Notes

• Must cover South/East quadrant (BON, BOST, EC, LM, OTM, RSD, ZMC) and one additional quadrant of the SD Service area.
• Night Shift (8 hours) including varied days (Mon–Sun) and variable start/end times due to operational needs.
• Position includes Standby.
