Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking an experienced Radiologic Technologist with supervisory responsibilities to support specialized imaging assignments in CT, MRI and mammography. The role requires a valid NYSDOH license, current registration, and experience at Assignment Levels I–III.

The incumbent will operate x-ray equipment, prepare imaging areas, coordinate daily tasks, and supervise radiographers. EMR documentation and adherence to safety protocols are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and two years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels I and II, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • For Specialized Imaging Assignments: a valid license and current registration ... issued by the NYSDOH; and possession of a current advanced-level certification for the performance of these procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operates x-ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials.
  • Performs procedures in CT, MRI, and mammography; supports Assignment Level II and III tasks as applicable.
  • Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel; plans, schedules and coordinates day-to-day activities for continuous workflow.
  • Assists radiologists and other physicians in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures; monitors patient and equipment condition during procedures.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; ensures safety protocols and EMR documentation.
  • Participates in quality assurance and procurement/storage of supplies and equipment; may participate in training programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position: This class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services. Operates x‑ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials. All personnel perform related work.

Specialized Imaging Assignments

Performs typical tasks of Assignment Levels I and II, as listed below, for special procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography in Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging or Mammography; and performs additional related Assignment Level III tasks described below, as applicable to this type of assignment.

Supervisory Assignments

In addition to performing duties at lower Assignment Levels at a more difficult and responsible level, performs the duties described below for Assignment Level III.

Examples Of Typical Tasks
  • Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.
  • Prepares patient for x‑ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.
  • Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x‑rays. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques.
  • Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.
  • Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment and required records.
  • Transports and uses mobile x‑ray equipment in patient care area as required.
  • Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
  • Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
Assignment Level II
  • Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.
  • Assists radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
  • Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.
  • Assists and guides radiographers in the performance of a wide variety of x‑ray procedures.
  • Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x‑ray procedures.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates the day‑to‑day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work.
  • Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability of the area.
Assignment Level III
  • Supervises the delivery of radiological services, in accordance with established standards and procedures, for the service area or unit.
  • Recommends changes and improvements relating to the delivery of radiological services.
  • Participates in the development of training programs for radiographic personnel, ancillary personnel and allied health care professionals. Demonstrates new or revised techniques, procedures and equipment.
  • May perform radiologic procedures, as required.
  • Performs special procedures including diagnostic and interventional radiography (e.g., C.T., M.R.I., and mammography).
  • Recommends area assignment of personnel to coordinate activities within the department with other activities and services and represents the department in interdepartmental operations and meetings.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities, including coordination, control and maintenance of technical equipment.
  • Participates in and coordinates procurement and storage of supplies and makes recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs.
  • Performs research and participates in special projects involving evaluation of equipment and delivery of service.
  • May be assigned duties and responsibilities of immediate supervisor in their absence on a temporary basis.
Minimum Qualifications
  • For Supervisory Assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and two years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels I and II, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • For Specialized Imaging Assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and possession of a current advanced‑level certification for the performance of these procedures.
Department Preferences
  • Two or more years of experience as a full‑time mammography technologist.
  • Active ARRT credential in mammography (M).
