Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Radiologic Technologist II at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The role focuses on safe, high-quality imaging care within a team-driven environment.

A limited-time sign-on bonus is offered, with a schedule that includes overnight shifts and opportunities for professional growth. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in diagnostic radiography and fluoroscopy, ARRT certification, and state licensure in Maryland or Virginia, plus BLS.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; or certificate in Radiologic Technology from an approved program.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in diagnostic radiography and fluoroscopy (XR/RF) required.
  • ARRT certification required upon hire; Maryland and/or Virginia licensure required upon hire; BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, operates digital fluoroscopic and portable radiology equipment to obtain routine radiographs of designated body areas per physician specifications and radiographic protocols.
  • Applies radiologic knowledge to provide diagnostic imaging services for patients of all ages while adhering to radiation safety and organizational policies; acquires and evaluates images for technical quality with proper patient identification and labeling; supports invasive procedures in the OR using a C-Arm and/or O-Arm.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve workflows, patient experience, quality, and safety; participates in student and employee training and educational activities.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment and keeps supplies and inventory in the assigned area.
  • Communicates effectively with patients to obtain medical history, answer questions, and explain procedures to ensure understanding and comfort.
  • Ensures proper maintenance and operation of equipment by performing quality control activities and reporting issues.
  • Provides patient education and support, including preparing patients for procedures and addressing physical and psychological needs; escalates concerns as needed.
  • Prioritizes patient flow and coordinates care through communication with patients, care teams, and families; documents patient care in EHRs and distributes final images to PACS.
  • Adheres to SPIRIT values and ARRT Standards of Ethics; maintains professionalism in actions and communication.
  • Follows departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations, complying with federal, state, and accreditation requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, operates digital fluoroscopic and portable radiology equipment to obtain routine radiographs of designated body areas according to physician specifications and established radiographic protocols.

  • Applies radiologic knowledge to provide diagnostic imaging services for patients of all ages while adhering to radiation safety and organizational policies. Demonstrates competency in general radiography and fluoroscopy by acquiring and evaluating images for technical quality, ensuring proper patient identification and image labeling. Independently supports invasive procedures in the operating room using a C-Arm and/or O-Arm.

  • Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing workflows, patient experience, quality, and safety to improve patient care and operational efficiency. Actively participates in student and employee training and educational activities.

  • Maintains a clean, safe, and prepared work environment, including cleaning and preparing patient rooms. Maintains supplies and inventory within the assigned area.

  • Communicates effectively with patients to obtain relevant medical history, answer questions, and explain procedures to ensure patient understanding and comfort.

  • Ensures the proper maintenance and operation of equipment by performing quality control activities and promptly reporting equipment or environmental issues.

  • Provides patient education and support, including preparing patients for procedures and addressing their physical and psychological needs. Escalates concerns through appropriate channels as needed.

  • Prioritizes patient flow and coordinates care through consistent and effective communication with patients, care teams, and families. Documents patient care activities in electronic health record systems and distributes final images to the PACS system in a timely manner for interpretation.

  • Consistently demonstrates professionalism in actions and communication, embodying the organization's SPIRIT values and fostering a respectful and supportive environment for patients, families, and colleagues. Adheres to the ARRT Standards of Ethics.

  • Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, professional, and accreditation requirements.

  • Follows leadership direction and established protocols, maintaining efficient patient flow and seeking clarification whenever necessary.

Qualifications
Education
  • Associate's degree required; or

  • Certificate in Radiologic Technology (awarded before January 1, 2015) from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or the Medical Education and Training Campus

  • (METC) required.

Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in diagnostic radiography and fluoroscopy (XR/RF) required.

Licenses and Certifications
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification required upon hire.

  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist in Maryland and/or Virginia, as applicable, required upon hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer skills preferred.

This position has a hiring range of : USD $35.68 - USD $64.71 /Hr.
