Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks an experienced Radiographer Ambulatory to provide diagnostic imaging in the outpatient setting with emphasis on safety and quality. The role requires adherence to protocols, accurate image acquisition, contrast administration where needed, and collaboration with the care team.

Responsibilities include ensuring patient readiness, monitoring during procedures, image review and documentation, and contributing to a positive patient experience while maintaining compliance

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program.
• ARRT Radiography (R) certification.
• Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Accreditation.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintains patient safety across the imaging process from screening to post-procedure care.
• Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and standards.
• Applies professional judgment to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
• Reviews images for diagnostic adequacy and initiates corrective actions as needed.
• Administers contrast per policy, including contraindication screening and monitoring.
• Operates imaging equipment and maintains the imaging room readiness.
• Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
• Maintains accurate documentation in the medical record and image archive.
• Adheres to quality, safety, and compliance standards in diagnostic imaging.
• Contributes to positive patient experiences and supports department goals.

The Radiographer Ambulatory reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

• Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.


• Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.


• Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.


• Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.


• Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).


• Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.


• Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.


• Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.


• Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.


• Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.


• Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, Infection prevention measures safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members


• Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery


• Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth


• Supports additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs


• Performs general and / or fluoroscopic radiography in the outpatient setting.
