Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is seeking a Registered Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging studies in accordance with physician orders. The role includes preparing patients, equipment, and rooms, and verifying studies in RIS/PACS. Shift schedules flex based on department needs and USW seniority.

The position requires an Associate's Degree in Radiology, ARRT and state licensure, CPR, and ALARA knowledge. On-call responsibilities and safety training are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Radiology from an approved two-year program.
  • Up to one year of experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of ALARA guidelines.
  • Must be able to meet hospital on-call requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and reviews requests for radiologic studies.
  • Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
  • Explains and prepares patients for all radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Interviews patients and reviews available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedures.
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to properly and safely position patients for maximum diagnostic yield.
  • Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the Radiology Department, operating suites, and at the patient's bedside.
  • Selects technical factors to ensure high-quality radiographs while adhering to ALARA standards.
  • Maintains radiographic equipment and x-ray rooms in proper working condition.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.
  • Performs various clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assists with higher-complexity examinations such as arteriography, myelography, and related procedures.
  • May perform venipuncture as required for specific examinations.
  • Performs work of equal skill, effort, and responsibility as directed.
  • May perform work at a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a department/unit team both interdepartmentally and intradepartmentally to facilitate departmental goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
