Job summary

Job description

Major Responsibilities
  • Determine appropriate radiological technique and position for patient using immobilization and support devices; operate radiology equipment appropriately.
  • Position patient, adjust equipment, secure and immobilize support devices as needed to tactfully perform procedures.
  • Determine appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain quality films for the radiologists.
  • Secure history from patient regarding reason for prescribed test.
  • Adhere to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality patient care.
  • Use universal precautions in daily performance of procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff at all times (e.g., appropriate patient shielding).
  • Maintain exposure badge.
  • Maintain supplies and cleanliness for assigned room on a daily basis.
  • Administer CPR as necessary.
  • Assure accuracy of examination performed and requisition.
  • Be familiar with MSDS information pertaining to chemicals used in the department.
  • Perform clerical duties such as maintaining adequate patient records, daily statistics, answering telephones, scheduling examinations and giving instructions to patients for examination to provide smooth and continuous department services.
  • Communicate with patient appropriately and provide excellent care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate quality control tasks:
    • Inventory supplies and maintain adequate stock.
    • Label radiology images according to department standards and criteria.
    • Prepare contrast media as necessary following department standards and manufacturer recommendations.
    • Perform daily sensitometry of processors; assist in performance of annual inspections.
    • Check film quality and ensure proper and correct labeling is provided.
    • Perform quality control activities, respond to inquiries, coordinate patient flow and communicate with provider to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
    • Prepare radiology rooms daily.
    • Coordinate the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established departmental/center procedures.
    • Perform orders management tracking functions.
Education/Experience Required
  • IDNS license. Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Radiology.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of Health Information System. Basic knowledge of radiology equipment.
  • CPR certification licensed by IDNS. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registered (ARRT).
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high‑quality patient care. High degree of technical skills. Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. Ability to deal with extremely ill patients. Ability to lift and/or move patients. Ability to work under stressful conditions, in difficult situations. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life‑threatening diseases. Ability to work during site hours of operation.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact, the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when the patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient‑handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case‑by‑case basis.

Advocate Medical Group‑Leroy: Radiology Tech also performs all lab assistant duties and is trained by Federal Standards in Urine Drug and Breath Alcohol Testing.
