Job summary

Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, LLC seeks a Radiology Technician to operate imaging equipment, assist in procedure prep, and maintain radiology logs. The role requires imaging competency, C-Arm experience, and a state radiology license.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program.
  • Current state license as Radiology Technician.
  • Minimum of one year fluoroscopy experience; C-Arm experience required.
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center experience preferred.
  • BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in x-ray/fluoroscopy technologist skills.
  • Demonstrates competence in selecting exposure factors and positioning, and consistently produces high-quality images.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and troubleshooting of equipment; ensures safety.
  • Maintains documentation/logs related to radiology services.
  • Practices radiation safety for self and patient; uses monitoring devices.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, patients, and physicians.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; follows safety protocols.
  • Attends required safety training and understands center safety responsibilities.
  • Assists in preparing operating/procedure rooms and supplies.

Shift Type: Part Time - 3 days per week, 10 hours per shift

Our clinical services include advanced MRI imaging, pain management, non-surgical and surgical treatment plans, rheumatology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, wellness, and sports and sports training. Ortho Access walk-in clinics provide same day care for orthopedic injuries. Comprehensive care offered all in one place enables physicians, therapists and staff to work closely together, so that patients and families achieve better outcomes. Collaborative care is also more efficient. In many cases, IBJI services are substantially less expensive than those provided by large healthcare systems and emergency rooms.

Job Description:

Operates imaging equipment and performs diagnostic x-rays (if applicable) on patients as ordered by the physician and under the guidance of the physician. Assists in preparing the operating / procedure rooms, as needed. Documents duration of radiation, tests equipment weekly, examines protective x-ray aprons for integrity, and documents the results of tests / examinations. Maintains all necessary documentation, logs, equipment reports, etc. related to the radiology services offered at the center.

Interaction with patients, physicians, referral sources, guest, visitors, volunteer workers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork that is congruent with the center's standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in x-ray / fluoroscopy technologist skills.
  • Demonstrates competence in selecting exposure factors and positioning, and consistently produces high-quality images.
  • Demonstrates competence and proficient use of equipment.
  • Adequately troubleshoots equipment problems.
  • Oversees and manages the performance of required maintenance of equipment by adhering to cleaning care, storage, and calibration procedures as directed.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in procedure preparation. Assembles necessary supplies and positioning aids for scheduling procedures according to physician’s preference card.
  • Proficiently practices radiation safety for self and patient. Wears radiological monitoring devices and adheres to principles of radiation protection.
  • Maintains established safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Reports infractions to supervisor.
  • Respects patients/introduces self to patient.
  • Effectively communicates center, organizational, and industrial information to staff.
  • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as the radiology leader of the center and works to facilitate the center’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field from an accredited program.

Certifications/Licensure

  • Must possess a current (state) license as a Radiology Technician.
  • American Registry of Radiology Technicians (ARRT) certification preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one-year fluoroscopy experience.
  • C-Arm experience required.
  • BLS certification.
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center experience preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • The job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using Google Suite, MS word, and scheduling software.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Soft Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, patients, physicians and the general public.
  • Must be able to work variable hours and be flexible to meet the needs of the center’s daily surgery schedule.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee is required to lift patients, assist a patient that is falling, and carry heavy medical equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • The employee is frequently required to attend to patients and escort them to and from patient care areas, often being leaned on for support.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Upper body strength, for lifting or helping patients out of bed.
