Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University seeks a Radiologic Technologist to perform all phases of diagnostic imaging in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. You will operate X‑Ray equipment, deliver high-quality images, and ensure patient safety and care across age groups.

Will rotate through general radiology areas, train radiologic technology students, and assist in transport and image presentation to radiologists. AARRT/OBMI criteria and BLS are required within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program that meets current qualifications to take and pass the ARRT board examinations in Radiography upon hire.
  • Student candidates must obtain the RT (R) (ARRT) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Current Oregon OBMI license required for hires (temporary for students, permanent for registered).
  • BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality diagnostic images with accuracy and efficiency across general radiology exams.
  • Rotate through department areas to cover workflow needs and ensure safety.
  • Utilize VIP transport to arrange patient delivery and position patients per protocol.
  • Operate radiology equipment and set exposure factors for high-quality results.
  • Process images and archive to PACS; track exams in Radiology Information System.
  • Develop and present images to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Assist with patient transport and supervise Radiologic Technology students.
  • Gathers complete patient information and ensures correct identification and chart review.
  • Label images with demographics and documentation; perform quality control checks.

Department Overview

Radiologic Technologists work with infant, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Function/Duties of Position
Imaging
  • Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment.
  • Technologists will be trained in all general radiology exams/areas so that they are able to rotate through the department based on workflow needs.
  • Utilize the VIP transportation system to arrange for patient delivery.
  • Positions patient for diagnostic radiology exams according to department procedures, training, and machine requirements with a high regard for the safety and care of the patient.
  • Operates radiology equipment, determines and sets exposure factors, sets technique utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality images with minimal and acceptable repeat rates.
  • Uses computer image processing, as needed to select, process, optimize and archive images to PACS.
  • Completely tracks exams in the Radiology Information system.
  • Develops and presents images and related patient information to radiologist for diagnosis.
  • Assists with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.
  • Assists in the training of Radiologic Technology Students and adheres to dept. policy on supervision of student technologists.
Documentation
  • Gathers complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.
  • Responsible to correctly identify patients by checking their identity per department procedure.
  • Reviews patient chart and orders to insure correct examination.
  • Labels images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation. Follows dept policy on the use of anatomical markers.
  • Logs activities, gathers charging information and charges exams as required.
  • Follows department and hospital procedures and policies.
  • Performs quality control and quality assurance, records results and reports variance from normal equipment function.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program that meets current qualifications to take and pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) board examinations in Radiography upon hire.
  • Student candidates must obtain the RT (R) (ARRT) certification within 6 months of their hire date.
  • Candidates must have a current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) temporary license for student hires and permanent license for registered hires.
  • Positions with in person patient care: BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice, whichever comes first

Preferred Qualifications
  • OHSU-partnered Radiologic Technology program experience.
  • Level 1 Trauma Center experience; Academic Medical Center experience.
Additional Details

This position works in a busy environment with frequent interruptions, multiple demands and continuous interaction with patients and other medical professionals. It requires being exposed to radiation, chemical solutions, and human tissue/fluids
