Job description

Radiologic Technologist

The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Radiologic Technologist to perform radiographic diagnostic imaging procedures on large and small animal patients from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This individual will use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients, staff, and students.

Other duties include but are not limited to: adhere to established policies and procedures and maintain open communication with departmental leadership and other staff regarding patient care delivery, technical operations, equipment utilization, regulatory compliance, and continuing education; keep radiographic exams rooms cleaned and well stocked; perform any other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares large and small animal patients from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for radiological procedure by reducing anxieties; positioning patient; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and staff by employing beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors, adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Instructs Veterinary students in the principles, performance and application of Veterinary Radiology and Radiation Safety Procedures.
  • Works with technologists and support staff to coordinate patient flow by monitoring hospital information and scheduling systems.
  • Keeps radiographic rooms cleaned, supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.
  • Performs routine back-up, transfer, archive, and retrieval of imaging studies and maintains all necessary records and reports in a correct, timely, and efficient manner as well as creates and evaluate soft copy and hard copy production as needed.
  • Participates in research projects involving Radiology.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures and maintains open communication with departmental leadership and other staff regarding patient care delivery, technical operations, equipment utilization, regulatory compliance, and continuing education.
  • May monitor and perform required quality control on all imaging instrumentation, survey meters, calibrators, and other devices to ensure appropriate functionality and coordination of required service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Depending upon the combination of education and experience, the successful candidate will be hired as a Diagnostic Technologist and hired into Level I, II, III , or IV.

Level I: Graduate of an approved program in radiologic technology that is registry eligible or registered in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Level II: Graduate of an approved program in radiologic technology that is registry eligible or registered in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists plus 1 year of radiography experience of all species.

Level III : Graduate of an approved program in radiologic technology that is registry eligible or registered in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists plus 2 years of radiography experience. Additional on the job and/or formal training in 1 or more of the alternate imaging modalities of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, positron emission magnetic resonance, or nuclear scintigraphy.

Level IV: Graduate of an approved program in radiologic technology that is registry eligible or registered in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists plus 4 years of radiography experience. Plus, an additional 2 years of on-the-job experience and/or formal training in 2 or more of the alternate imaging modalities of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, positron emission magnetic resonance, or nuclear scintigraphy.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT ) required or ability to obtain within 90 days. Registered Radiologic Technologist or Board Eligible required.

Desired Qualifications

MR experience is desired.

Salary Range: $40,930- $89,700
