Qualifications

  • Certified as a registered cardiovascular invasive specialist (RCIS) or registered cardiovascular electrophysiology specialist (RCES).
  • Must obtain RCIS or RCES certification within 12 months of hire date.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must possess and maintain CORE certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must read, write, comprehend and speak fluent English.

  • FTE/Hours per pay period: 0.67
  • Shift: 1st shift; Four 9‑hour shifts/week; 7:00‑16:30
Overview

As a member of the interdisciplinary Electrophysiology Lab team, you will contribute professional Cardiovascular Tech (CVT) knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures. The CVT will function in collaboration with the RN staff and under the direction of physicians. The CVT will perform the role of secondary circulator, scrub tech, and monitor.

Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
  • Assess the needs of patients and families undergoing invasive cardiac procedures, provide appropriate teaching and make necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Assist the physician with the development of an individualized plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
  • Promptly complete documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
  • Deliver high‑quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills required in the Cath Lab in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care under direct supervision of the physician.
  • Utilize a holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
  • Use critical thinking in making judgments, and maintain responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of patient conditions.
  • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required for the administration of emergency medications in the Cath Lab under direct supervision of the physician.
  • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to operate specialized equipment in the Electrophysiology Lab, including, but not limited to:
  • Point‑of‑care testing: activated clotting times (ACT), oxygen analysis.
  • Ablation equipment: recording and mapping systems.
  • Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) equipment: programmers.
  • Advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in preparing and maintaining sterile fields and in maintaining a clean procedure environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of radiation safety and practice, including, but not limited to:
  • Use of advanced imaging systems in the Electrophysiology Lab setting.
  • Use of radiation protection devices and monitoring exposure levels for both the associate and patient.
Development & Patient Education
  • Continue professional development and involvement in activities that enhance CVT practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
  • Assess and choose teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age‑specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Consult appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
  • Demonstrate that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a programmatically accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology.
  • Current certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) and in good standing with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). RCIS or RCES certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire date.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within 3 months of hire date.
  • Must possess and maintain hospital CORE (Chain of Response in an Emergency) certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Read, write, comprehend and speak fluent English.
  • Demonstrate multicultural sensitivity.
  • Basic Microsoft Office computer skills.

  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.
  • Use of standard equipment required to perform essential functions of the position.
