Job summary

Department Summary

KNTU strives to serve the public interest with news, public affairs, and entertainment programming for the McKinney, Denton, Dallas-Fort Worth area; to provide news and information of community interest about the University of North Texas; and to provide an industry-standards environment in which students learn about radio broadcasting.

Position Overview

To maintain the basic sound of KNTU and ensure quality control of its implementation consistent with program plans and goals of the station. Also, to train, schedule and supervise designated student volunteers and designated paid student staff members.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and five years of professional related experience, preferably as an Operations manager, program director, or promotions director; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong working knowledge of industry standards and FCC rules and regulations.
  • Strong communications, supervisory, and training skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and motivate others.
  • Ability to work a schedule including some evenings, weekends and/or holidays and substitute shifts.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed and work supervised.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the operations of a radio station and staff roles.
Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience working in broadcast media, preferably as an Operations manager, program director, or promotions director.

Job Duties
  • Recruit, train, and manage all student staff directors while creating a positive environment for teaching and coaching students the techniques and procedures for their various tasks.
  • Help manage all quality control aspects of our brands, on-air content, podcast content, music and traffic logs, and promotional materials. This includes assisting the General Manager with the workflow of recorded promotional and underwriting announcements, writing and approving scripts, voice talent, and loading content in our automation system.
  • Oversee students assigned to fundraising activities aimed at increasing donations made to KNTU.
  • Work with students to generate online content for all KNTU websites, social media and podcast platforms.
  • Assist with broadcast and documentation of public affairs programming, namely content that examines issues of public importance in KNTUs local coverage area.
  • Evaluates and critiques all on-air operations through frequent, daily monitoring of our broadcast products, providing feedback to appropriate student staff directors and other station personnel.
  • Organize and supervise promotional appearances and live broadcasts/remotes, and fundraisers, including managing student participation.
