Position Summary

The National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) at the University of Nebraska is seeking applications for an RF Data Scientist to support the technical mission program in analyzing large-scale radio frequency (RF) datasets collected from deployed sensing systems in support of Department of War (DoW) and United States Government (USG) sponsors. The RF Data Scientist will process, analyze, and interpret terabyte-scale RF datasets to identify trends, patterns, and abnormal RF presence in support of mission requirements.

The RF Data Scientist will work closely with the field teams, engineering staff, and program leadership to develop and refine data processing methods, build software tools that streamline and automate analysis workflows, and deliver timely, accurate findings that directly support ongoing and upcoming deployments.

The ideal candidate has strong quantitative and programming skills, is comfortableworking independently against firm deadlines, and has a demonstrated track record of reliably delivering results on schedule.Periodic travel to U.S. Government facilities, Sponsor locations, and other NSRI offices may also be required to support mission planning, program reviews, technical coordination, and other operational requirements.

This position is part of a government-funded project, and employment is contingent upon continued customer funding and performance.

Priority Consideration: In alignment with our commitment to staff development and internal mobility, current NSRI employees will be given priority consideration for this vacancy, provided they meet the minimum qualifications. Internal candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Process, manage, and analyze terabyte-scale (TB-range) radio frequency (RF) datasets collected from deployed sensing systems.
  • Apply statistical and analytical methods to identify trends, patterns, and abnormal or anomalous RF presence within large, complex datasets.
  • Design, develop, and maintain software tools and scripts to automate and streamline RF data ingestion, processing, and analysis workflows.
  • Develop and refine algorithms and analytical pipelines to improve the speed, accuracy, and repeatability of RF data processing.
  • Collaborate with the Field Team Lead, RF Field Scientist, and other field personnel to understand collection context and translate mission requirements into analytical priorities.
  • Deliver timely, accurate analytical products and reports in accordance with program deadlines and sponsor requirements.
  • Maintain data management practices consistent with government data handling, security, and documentation requirements.
  • Document analytical methods, software tools, and processing workflows for repeatability and knowledge transfer.
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including program leadership and government sponsors.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data processing efficiency, tooling, and analytical approaches as data volumes and mission needs evolve.
  • Coordinate periodically with the Melbourne, Florida program office and team members to support planning, training, and program activities.
  • Provide analytical recommendations based on RF data findings and identify significant trends, anomalies, or technical issues requiring additional investigation or program attention.
  • Perform additional analytical or technical duties as assigned in support of NSRI program operations.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in data science, quantitative analytics, signor or RF analytics, large-scale data processing, or closely related work.
  • Demonstrated experience processing and analyzing large-scale (terabyte-range) datasets.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used for data processing and analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, or similar).
  • Experience developing software or scripts to automate and streamline data processing workflows.
  • Demonstrated past performance in reliably meeting project deadlines in a professional or academic setting.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain consistent communication.
