Job summary

GBH News is seeking a Radio Engineer for Morning Edition to operate the control board in a fast-paced live and taped environment. You will steer audio feeds, supervise on-air timing, and collaborate with hosts and editors to deliver high-quality segments on schedule.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and at least three years in live news production, with familiarity in Adobe Audition, Zetta, NewsBoss, SAS, and Wheatstone consoles. On-site at our Brighton, MA studios.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Radio Engineer for GBH News’ Morning Edition presents locally produced and national/network audio segments, live and on tape. The shift involves pre-and post-production responsibilities for a variety of programs airing on 89.7. The ideal candidate is a seasoned pro who thrives under pressure in a live control room environment and possesses the creative intuition to elevate every segment they touch. As operator of the control board from 5a to 1p, the Radio Engineer for GBH’s Morning Edition is an essential part of beginning the broadcast day in a highly competitive media market.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering live and taped segments of GBH’s Morning Edition, provide real-time direction to hosts, manage multi-source audio feeds, and troubleshoot technical hurdles on the fly. Handles all stages of audio production, from adhering to a live broadcast clock to final post-production delivery for broadcast and digital platforms. Actively contributes to the editorial process by participating in idea generation and topic development, and ensure technical execution aligns with creative vision. Work closely with the Production Director and colleagues in the Radio Engineering department to ensure seamless operation across all shifts. This position requires a five-day a week, in-person commitment, in our Brighton, MA studios.

SKILL SET

Strong imagination and a willingness to experiment are essential Must have experience with operating and managing a control board during a live, broadcast clock-driven news and culture program, a track record in the creative use of sound, and the ability to work calmly under stress on the production of a fast-paced dynamic news program. Familiarity with the Adobe Audition, Zetta and NewsBoss systems and SAS and Wheatstone audio consoles are highly valued.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required. Minimum of three years’ experience in the production and broadcast of a live daily deadline-driven news program. Prior technical experience with audio production (broadcast, live sound reinforcement, music recording, theatre, post-production, ENG) are a plus.
