Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of radiation therapy.
• Certifications required: Cardio graphic Tech credentialed from CCI, Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiation Therapy credentialed from ARRT (within 12 months of hire), Medical Sonographer credentialed from ARDMS (within 12 months of hire), BLS Provider credentialed from AHA.

Responsibilities

• Review prescriptions to ascertain treatment type and area.
• Position patients using immobilization devices.
• Operate treatment machines (linear accelerator, HDR) precisely.
• Administer ionizing radiation as prescribed.
• Verify prescription and document dose in patient charts.
• Document treatment in inpatient charts and schedule daily treatments.

As a Therapist-Radiation, you will play a vital role in administering radiation therapy to patients by delivering prescribed doses of radiation to specific areas of the body. You will work closely with physicians and dosimetrists to ensure accurate and effective treatment plans, contributing directly to patient recovery and well-being. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Reviews patient prescriptions to ascertain type of treatment required, location ofaffected areas, history of previous radiation treatment, etc.
• Safely positions patients utilizing immobilization devices.
• Utilizes appropriate treatment accessories as prescribed by the physician.
• Operates treatment machine (linear accelerator, HDR) precisely.
• Administers ionizing radiation as prescribed per physician.
• Verifies radiation prescription prior to treatment and confirms total radiation dose following treatment in patient charts.
• Documents treatment in inpatient charts.
• Localizes patient markings daily.
• Completes on-going imaging of patients per departmental policy.
• Assists patients in coordinating appointment time for daily treatments, accommodating patient transportation, and other appointments.
• Refers patients to social worker for counseling, transportation and medical equipment needs, etc. as appropriate.
• Refers patients to nurse or physician for conditions requiring evaluation, as appropriate.
• Assumes the duties of simulation.
• Rotates through treatment areas as assigned.
• Responsible for cleaning therapy rooms and work area; maintains linen and medical supplies for treatment rooms.
• Adheres to the quality assurance policies of the department (chart checks, timeouts, machine warm-up, etc.).
• Teaches radiation therapy students as defined by their educational requirements.
• Performs all other duties as assigned or requested
