Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center is seeking a Radiation Therapist to administer ionizing radiation per prescribed doses and educate patients and families about treatments. You will verify daily treatment delivery and help maintain the MOSAIQ scheduling system.

The role requires independent treatment delivery under physician direction and collaboration with the care team. Ideal candidates are School of Radiation Therapy graduates, ARRT-certified or registry-eligible, CPR-certified, and able to

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a School of Radiation Therapy.
  • ARRT certification required or registry eligible; plan to pass within 1 year.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Ability to communicate with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of radiation safety and basic dosimetry theories.
  • Ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Administers correct daily treatment dose as prescribed by Radiation Oncologist.
  • Positions patients accurately according to prescription.
  • Checks therapy equipment for proper operation and notifies staff of issues.
  • Schedules and maintains daily patient treatment calendar.
  • Performs mold room duties and block fabrication.
  • Performs basic simulations (CT/Sim) and basic dosimetry hand calculations.

Educates and informs patients and their families in all aspects of their radiation treatments and refers them to RN, PA, RD, or MD as indicated. Accurately maintains daily treatment schedule for each patient in assigned area. Verifies the accuracy of daily treatment delivery, and charge capture in MOSAIQ system.Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Administers correct daily treatment dose as prescribed by Radiation OncologistConduct most treatments independently, in accordance with the long-term treatment plan and under the general direction of the patient’s physicianPositions patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescriptionChecks therapy equipment to ensure proper operation and notify ancillary staff of issues timely mannerPerforms mold room duties and demonstrates use of equipment and safety proceduresCuts, pours, and mounts 4 sets of various blocksPerforms basic simulations including Ct/Simulations with little or no assistancePerforms basic Dosimetry hand calculations for POP fields, blocked and unblockedEfficiently schedules and maintains daily patient treatment schedule and assists others when feasibleObserves and reassure patients during treatment and report to clinic staff as necessaryInstructs trains and supervises Radiation Therapy studentsOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training:School of Radiation Therapy graduate requiredBoard certified OR registry eligible by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy requiredCandidate is expected to pass the ARRT exam within 1-year of employment.
