Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Radiation Therapist to administer ionizing radiation to oncology patients under the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. You will maintain treatment records, coordinate with physicians, and monitor patients for adverse reactions during therapy.

Required credentials include graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy program, ARRT and state licensure within 90 days, and BLS. Strong data entry and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
• ARRT certification within 90 days of hire.
• Licensed by state Radiologic Technology Board within 90 days.
• BLS certification required.
• Proficient with data entry and Windows-based software.

Responsibilities

• Administer radiation therapy per Radiation Oncologist prescription.
• Document port films and treatment chart updates.
• Request simulations/ exams for field changes as needed.
• Maintain daily patient treatment schedule andQA checks.
• Ensure accurate billing documentation for patients under treatment.

This job applies ionizing radiation to oncology patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Maintains accurate treatment records, processes orders for specific exams required during treatment, acts as a liaison between the physician, patient and patient's family, and monitors patient for any adverse reactions during radiation therapy. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned area. The Radiation Therapist demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for his/her own practice. Education

• Required - Graduate of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology

Work Experience

• Required - None
• Preferred - Experience in the fabrication of contours, cases and patient immobilization devices.

Certifications

• Required - Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 90 days of hire
• Licensed in the state of practice by the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners within 90 days of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software programs specific to role.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
• Understanding of all utilized equipment, its use and care.
• Ability to chart accurately and maintain all data pertinent to patient's therapy and care.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Extensive knowledge of radiation therapy concepts, applications and administration.

Job Duties

• Administers radiation therapy to patients in accordance with prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist
• Documents port films and treatment chart
• Requests specific exams required during the course of therapy such as simulations for field changes and boost fields within the time frame required to assure a smooth, uninterrupted course of therapy
• Maintains a daily patient treatment schedule
• Performs quality control duties and performs weekly chart checks
• Performs daily treatment machine quality assurance
• Documents and submits all billing on patients under treatment on a daily basis
• Exhibits flexibility in scheduling and staffing practices to accommodate needs of the department
• Other related duties as required.
