Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Radiation Therapist for our Round Rock Cancer Center. The role involves performing radiation therapy, coordinating with physicians, and maintaining patient safety and comfort.

The Radiation Therapist will operate treatment machines (Truebeam), conduct CT simulations, and support scheduling and training initiatives. Experience with ARRT-T certification and team leadership are valued in this full-time position.

Qualifications

  • Education: HS Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2 years of experience.
  • Certification: ARRRT Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T) required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high-quality radiation therapy procedures according to exam protocol.
  • Communicates with patients using AIDET to explain tests and address needs.
  • Positions patient and prepares area, adjusts immobilization devices and equipment.
  • Maintains safety and infection-control practices.
  • Mentors new hire therapists and serves as Clinical Supervisor for students.
  • Occasionally takes on supervisory tasks in absence of the Supervisor.

Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist, supervised by a Radiation Oncologist, performs radiation therapy on patients. This is done as requested by a physician or licensed provider, following established protocols.

Essential Functions Of The Role
  • Performs high-quality radiation therapy procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Utilizes AIDET to communicate with patients. Identifies patient service needs. Ensures the correct exam is performed on the correct patient. Establishes rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their families about the test. Assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
  • Prepare the patient and area for the procedure. Position the patient, adjust immobilization devices, and move equipment into position. Adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and employees by following safety, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques for invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene.
  • Performs all the essential functions of the Radiation Therapist plus the following specific functions.
  • Runs treatment machines (Truebeam) and CT Simulations proficiently.
  • Coordinates with the Supervisor to schedule in-service training sessions when needed.
  • Provides backup support for Supervisor in time management, scheduling, and staffing functions.
  • Assumes managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Supervisor.
  • Creates and maintains positive departmental culture and serves as an informal department manager.
  • Serves as main mentor and trainer for new hire therapists.
  • Serves as Clinical Supervisor for radiation therapy students.
  • Able to make judgments and solve technical problems and issues authoritatively.
  • Participates in and manages huddles as well as intradepartmental and interdepartmental committees.
  • Assists in maintaining clinical supply inventory.

  • Provide services quickly, accurately, and cost-efficiently, following System and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Able to stay calm and helpful during stress and take reasonable steps to resolve issues.
  • Able to effectively administer first aid and use emergency cart.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service. Remain professional, review patient satisfaction scores, and develop action plans when needed.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge, education, and skills for appropriate care of newborns, pediatric, young adults, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Able to serve as preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
  • Able to take call, if required.
