Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA seeks an experienced Radiation Therapist to plan, prepare and deliver prescribed radiation treatments, while ensuring patient safety and comfort. You will support simulation, charting, and room setup, with strong emphasis on accuracy and safety.

The role requires ARRT in Radiation Therapy, MA licensure, and 5+ years of clinical experience, plus knowledge of SBRT/SRS/IMRT techniques and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of continuous clinical experience in a comparable clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of Simulation, Total Body Irradiation, and Total Skin Irradiation.
  • Experience with 3‑Dimensional, SBRT, SRT, SRS, IMRT, KV, and CBCT imaging and treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver prescribed radiation to patients per chart specifications.
  • Operate radiation therapy treatments with safety for patients and staff.
  • Maintain patient charts, treatment records, and scheduling.
  • Assist in development of new techniques and clinical problem solving.
  • Teach when possible in Radiation Therapy Technology school.

Job description

Major Responsibilities
  • Responsible for efficient operation of the assigned clinical treatment or simulation unit.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers a prescribed course of radiation to patients. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient‑identification prior to treatment, explains the procedure to patients, answers questions, reassures patients, reinforces physician’s advice regarding reactions and care, and prepares room and equipment according to chart specifications.
  • Administers radiation therapy treatments while observing radiation safety measures for patients and personnel. Transfers patients safely to the treatment table, providing special care for catheters, I.V.’s, and the like.
  • Monitors patients and equipment during treatment, maintains patient markings and simulation rooms, assists the Radiation Oncologist and Physicist with patient simulations, observes patients for unusual reactions, and reports findings to the supervisor or others. Assists with follow‑up and clinical examinations of patients.
  • Maintains departmental records, updates patient charts as required, keeps records of daily treatment, maintains separate files on all therapy patients, and schedules patient appointments.
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Keeps work areas clean, orderly, and safe. Maintains equipment in good working order, makes minor repairs as necessary, reports hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns immediately, and initiates requisitions for supplies as needed.
  • Assists in the development of new techniques and/or the resolution of clinical problems.
  • Teaches when operationally possible in the Radiation Therapy Technology school.

Position Qualifications
License/Certification/Education

Required:

  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy.
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.

Preferred:

  • Graduate of a CAHEA‑approved Radiation Therapy Technology Program.
Experience/Skills

Required:

  • Minimum of five years of continuous clinical experience in a comparable clinical setting.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in:
    • Specialty areas such as Simulation, Total Body Irradiation, and Total Skin Irradiation.
    • 3‑Dimensional, SBRT, SRT, SRS, IMRT, KV, and CBCT imaging and treatments, and Quality Assurance programs.
    • Computer Management Systems for Radiation Oncology, e.g., ARIA, ImPACT, etc.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team.

Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.
