Jobtailor in Schaumburg, IL is seeking a full-time Radiation Therapist to join our radiology team. You will assess patients, verify doses, and operate radiation therapy equipment in line with prescribed plans.

The role requires ARRT(T) certification or eligibility, Illinois licensure, CPR, and a commitment to patient education, confidentiality, and continuing education. Some travel to Lisle may be required.

Qualifications

  • Active involvement in patient assessment and treatment administration.
  • Must maintain CPR certification and pursue continuing education.
  • Illinois licensure and ARRT(T) registration as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' condition to determine treatment within the prescribed plan.
  • Review prescribed doses and verify mathematical accuracy.
  • Consult with radiation physicist or treatment plan when needed.
  • Assist and monitor patients during treatment and recognize complications.
  • Notify physicians and provide emotional support to patients.
  • Operate radiation therapy equipment and refer malfunctions.
  • Select technical factors according to the treatment plan.
  • Arrange patient transportation when needed.
  • Educate patients and families about procedures and waiting times.
  • Assist brachytherapy procedures.
  • Maintain treatment and dose records and perform chart checks.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and follow procedures.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Job description

  • Assess patients' condition, age, size, and other medical conditions to determine whether treatment can be performed within the prescribed plan
  • Review radiation oncologist-prescribed doses before administering radiation and verify mathematical accuracy
  • Consult with the radiation physicist and/or treatment plan when needed
  • Assist and monitor patients during treatment and recognize complications, problems, complaints, or occurrences
  • Notify physicians as needed and answer patient questions while providing emotional support
  • Operate specialized radiation therapy equipment, recognize malfunctions, and refer service as needed
  • Select technical factors according to the treatment plan
  • Arrange patient transportation to and from the department when needed
  • Educate patients and significant others about procedures and explain extended waiting times
  • Assist the radiation oncologist/physicist with brachytherapy procedures
  • Maintain treatment and dose records, perform chart checks, and assist the physicist with record keeping
  • Follow procedures to secure and safeguard patient and confidential information
  • Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited course study in Radiation Oncology Technology
  • Preferred ARRT(T) registered or meets eligibility requirements for examination
  • Examination must be completed within six months of eligibility
  • Licensure by State of Illinois - IEMA Division of Nuclear Safety
  • Obtains continuing education credits as required
  • Maintains CPR certification
  • Prefer a minimum of one year of professional radiation therapist experience in a clinical or hospital setting
  • Full time - 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday availability during various hours from 6:30am–4:00pm
  • Some travel to Lisle on occasion
